Candidates that are dedicated to raising the bar in veterinary medicine while lowering expenses for our clients are preferred. Veterinarians, or “Doctors of Veterinary Medicine,” need to be well-versed in medicine, have great people skills, be able to multitask, work swiftly, and have a sense of humor.

Qualifications:

• Establishing and maintaining a program for the care and use of laboratory animals is mandatory for achieving AAALAC accreditation.
• The administration of rabies vaccine to all unvaccinated animals and the issuance of a rabies-free certificate for all animals. Victims of animal attacks are given advice on how to stay safe and what to do next.
• Animal caretakers learn about animal anatomy and physiology, how to handle animals humanely, how to prevent the spread of disease, how to treat common illnesses in animals, how to administer basic first aid, and how to help with the intake and recovery phases of surgical procedures. Educates, evaluates, and assists in the euthanasia of animals by the use of injections. Checks the health of all captured animals and, if necessary, orders their killing.
• All diagnostic tests, treatments, surgeries, and dental work go smoothly. The client receives information on their pet’s medical condition, treatment plan, preventative health care, and nutritional needs.
• Possess the skills necessary to compile animal records from staff, enter dispositions into the computer, and produce monthly and weekly reports as required.
• Clients’ and patients’ medical and surgical records are maintained, and all relevant logs are up to date per established protocols within their purview.
• Performing high-quality sterilization surgery on adopted animals in a busy shelter environment. Routine veterinary care includes triage, physical examinations, emergency medical care, stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment of sick and injured animals, minor surgery, vaccines, and testing.
• Capacity to acquire and administer euthanasia medications and devices, and to supervise their use in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Being up-to-date on the most recent innovations and developments in the animal sheltering industry.
• The client’s input is highly prized, and he or she pays close attention to and grasps the client’s concerns and goals.
• Generates and follows prescribed medical treatment plans. Knowledge of and skill in interpreting city ordinances, legislation, rules, and regulations pertaining to animal control. Ability to accommodate the needs of city residents and municipal officials; Help get things sorted out as quickly and easily as possible.

Skills:

• Medical record keeping systems such as MedARKs and ZIMS are not foreign to you.
• Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work well in a collaborative environment and to work independently to achieve goals.
• Get or maintain a DEA registration for banned substances.
• A veterinary medical degree from a school recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), such as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD).
• Superior social, organizational, and verbal skills are essential.
