Our company is searching for a motivated Forester with previous work experience to join our team responsible for natural resource management. The Forester provides direct assistance to the Senior Resource Forester in a wide range of tasks and responsibilities across all aspects of the industrial forest’s operations. The Forester reports to the Senior Resource Forester. The Forester will be part of a small team of workers that will be engaged in all parts of the company’s natural resource management in order to meet or surpass the company’s yearly objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Responsible for silviculture plan implementation, field-verification of treatment candidates, and provision of setting-specific recon information to management, as well as contract negotiation, silviculture operation supervision, timely status updates for system activity updates, and monitoring of contract performance including safety, SFI, EMP, production, cost and quality. Silviculture processing is also included.
  • Verifies, establishes, and inventories the annual thin and harvest schedule, as well as road design and access rights of way, and any other tasks that may be required in connection with the sale and administration of the crop.
  • Contributes to municipal tree and landscape inspections by providing assistance and taking part in the inspections itself. Quality, amount and kind of plant materials utilized must meet the requirements of the project, and methods for safeguarding and installing new plants must be followed, as well as arrangements for plant maintenance.
  • Conducting early- and mid-rotation responsibilities for the forestry department as well as any additional activities that may be allocated.
  • Maintaining the health and safety of the City’s tree stock and educating other Streets Division staff on proper tree care methods are the primary responsibilities of this position.
  • This job covers everything from forest management to harvest monitoring on company- or privately-owned land.
  • Learn about forest stewardship plans for the county’s owned forestland and assist in the development of these plans. Gathering and analyzing data from the field is part of what we do. This helps us figure out how the forest stands. To make advantage of the FLAT, coordinate with other department members and outside contractors. Use it to look at the condition of all forestland parcels that have recently been bought or that have just been bought.
  • Create new outreach materials to promote different forestry projects by re-evaluating and updating websites.
  • Verifies the accuracy of information contained in submitted plans for landscaping, tree removal, and site clearing by coordinating with lower-level inspectors, reviewing factors, and granting or denying applications; notifying applicants in writing of reasons for denial; and assigning and taking part in site clearing inspections.
  • Site plan review staff (stormwater, zoning and transportation) consult with each other to ensure that other disciplines’ code requirements are met without interfering with the tree and landscape code.

Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of tree planting techniques, policies, and practices (wrapping, guying, watering, mulching, and weeding), pruning, trimming, disease inspection, and disease eradication needs and alternatives.
  • Excel and Word fluency, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills, are required for this position.
  • Perform exterior inspections and diagnose pathological plant problems, educate staff in tree and landscaping inspections, build and manage successful tree and landscaping inspection programs, execute inspections and diagnose pathological plant conditions, and perform other responsibilities as assigned. Determine whether or not sick or physically damaged trees may be saved. Determine whether or not a landscape design should be approved or rejected by looking at it. Rules and regulations must be enforced with a combination of firmness, tact and objectivity.
  • An undergraduate degree in urban forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, or a related field, with six (6) months experience in tree and landscape inspections.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees, departments, and members of the general public.
