The Library Assistant is responsible for assisting in the planning and creation of activities to engage and promote library services to patrons, assisting with research, providing customer assistance in locating materials and using computerized catalogs, participating in the acquisition, special handling, and discarding of library materials, assisting with library programming, preparing statistics and reports, working with volunteers, and maintaining records under general supervision.

Qualifications:

  • Interacts with customers to help them use library services/equipment, programs, and facilities, collect/cancel fines or fees as needed, answer inquiries, identify patron service requirements, and find resources.
  • Assist the Librarian in designing, reviewing, and maintaining the library collection to fulfill the requirements of students and teachers. Assist the librarian and textbook coordinator in the implementation and coordination of the textbook program and distribution.
  • A librarian is responsible for accepting phone calls and directing calls so that users may get answers to questions they have regarding the library’s services and rules. Establish and maintain strong public relations. Obtain and provide library cards to new members. Take a look at the available resources. Release stuff on hold. When items are ready to be picked up, notify your customers of this fact. Overdue costs should be notified to customers.
  • Include stamping with ownership stamps, adding security strip, pocket, and barcode, as well as typing and applying spine labels for all new and donated works received for the collection.
  • All library materials should be sorted and returned to their rightful placements; shelving should be rearranged so that more space can be made for new items; and books should be kept in order. assist with book restoration efforts; Classes and catalogs library resources utilizing a range of online databases and book dumps.
  • Collect, organize, and shelve library items in call number order; shelf-read and maintain order in the stacks; autonomously handle book moving initiatives to generate shelf space.
  • Manage the circulation desk, which includes tasks such as checking books in and out, generating classroom circulation reports, keeping patron accounts, addressing concerns related to overdue books, collecting and resolving fines, and initiating overdue report requests.
  • Contributes to the staffing of the Check-Out Desk(s) in order to provide assistance to customers in the following areas: checking items in or out, setting holds, registering customers, collecting fines and fees, and troubleshooting issues.
  • Participate in library events, programs, art activities, and puppet shows; help with event build up and breakdown; distribute flyers; keep track of and record attendees; aid with occasional story time, book suggestion, and library outreach.
  • Participating in the precise planning, computation, and implementation of large group book shifts with many levels. Other group efforts include processing contributions, compiling library statistics, and so on.

Skills:

  • Able to multitask Independent project work and initiative to decide tasks (e.g. keep tables clean, fill paper trays, replace supplies)
  • An Associate’s degree, diploma or equivalent from a college or technical school, as well as a business, vocational and correspondence school, is required for this employment. An relevant certification may be issued after completing further education or training.
  • Rebooting, turning on and off the computer, using the mouse, keyboard, and saving a file are just a few instances of computer skills. Having great organizational skills, including the ability to sort objects alphabetically and numerically is required.
