Job Description

In compliance with the Physical Therapy Standards of Practice, the Physical Therapist offers and coordinates comprehensive physical therapy care to patients by appropriately utilizing evaluation, planning, education, and implementation of a treatment plan. Documentation, scheduling, family education, rounds attendance, interaction with the Interdisciplinary Team, attendance at staff meetings, supply ordering, and participation in ongoing quality assurance and performance enhancement are examples of indirect patient care responsibilities. Additionally, incumbents must effectively handle legal, patient rights, safety, maintenance, and emergency situations. They must also take part in ongoing education, staff development, and self-directed learning, as well as manage and give performance feedback to staff members, assistants, students, and volunteers as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Adept in navigating the complexities of reimbursement from many sources and allocating therapeutic resources effectively for optimal resident outcomes leading up to discharge.
  • Assesses and monitors a patient’s progress in terms of their muscular and sensory abilities, as well as their ability to move and do daily tasks, as well as their respiratory and circulatory systems, so that appropriate care may be provided.
  • In order to assist the client in moving toward mutually agreed-upon goals and a discharge plan, counsel and communicate with the client’s family and/or other caregivers as necessary.
  • To reduce their pharmaceutical use and prevent surgery, patients should get education and training.
  • Initial and continuous physical therapy assessments must be carried out in compliance with APTA guidelines and local requirements.
  • The therapist communicates with a physician and other practitioners to acquire more patient information, make treatment program adjustments, and integrate physical therapy with other areas of the patient’s health care.
  • Instructs, inspires, and supports the patient via non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, daily-living tasks, and the use of assistive and supportive equipment including crutches, canes, and prostheses.
  • Preventing the start, symptoms, and progression of impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities brought on by illnesses, disorders, ailments, or injuries will stop them from developing, advancing, and becoming more severe.
  • Restore, maintain, and promote optimal wellbeing, fitness, and quality of life in terms of mobility and health, in addition to optimum physical function.
  • Create a Plan of Care, ensure that the patient is responsible for adhering to it, and modify the timeline and plan as needed according to the patient’s development.

Skills:

  • Work history that demonstrates proficiency in a medical/surgical, rehabilitative, or similar setting is preferred.
  • Experience working in a nursing home, hospital, or inpatient/outpatient setting for at least a year is preferred.
  • Possessing attributes such as empathy, compassion, and the capacity to motivate patients to push themselves safely and responsibly are crucial.
  • The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) requires all physical therapists to graduate from an APTA-approved program.
  • The candidate needs to be a natural leader with a persistent hunger for knowledge and improvement.
