You, as managing editor, will be tasked with overseeing the entire production process, from contract signing to product delivery. This includes managing the project’s budget, schedule, and output finances; communicating with stakeholders about any deviations; staying in close contact with the writer/editor during the project’s development; and guaranteeing the quality of the final product (s).

Qualifications:

• Tracking project progress through the stages of the end-to-end content process; ensuring each component’s schedule is up to current; and advising stakeholders of any deviation from FY expectations.
• using the appropriate tool to track project expenditures against planned budgets, notify involved parties of variances, and investigate causes of problems.
• It is important to encourage other departments to create high-quality written materials such as membership brochures, program flyers, and exhibition labels.
• Establishing and maintaining open lines of communication with the author; providing the author with updates on the status of the workflow; describing the author’s responsibilities and the processes involved in the creation of the content; accepting delivery of the finished output.
• Collaborating with the Editorial/Senior Managing Editor to plan the publication year ahead, taking into account the knowledge of the publishing program and author pool.
• Create possibilities to generate income, such as selling Magazine at places like bookstores or newsstands and leading the development of a successful advertising program across content channels.
• Collaborate with producers, writers, editors, and designers, whether they’re in-house staff or independent contractors.
• Collaborate with the retail group, local museums, and print-on-demand companies to meet retail and wholesale order needs.
• Collaborating with the Editorial team to establish a schedule and check that the necessary information is entered into the system at the appropriate times during the product’s development and maintenance phases.
• oversee continuing revisions to the internal style manual, especially those that address language that is more inclusive and equitable.

Skills:

• advanced familiarity with all aspects of publishing, digital or otherwise.
• is aware of how decisions made by the company may impact the bottom line, cash flow, and return on investment (ROI).
• is aware of and able to execute all phases of content creation on time, including but not limited to ideation, production, and distribution.
• manages the process of acquiring fees and licenses for the publication of images, artwork, and other copyrighted materials in journals, as well as compiling relevant data for publication.
• competent command of electronic communication and the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
