The Public Health Nurse is responsible for professional nursing, including on-site nursing, to safeguard public health. Reports to the Public Health Director. Performs sophisticated, technical, judgment- and initiative-requiring tasks. The employee interacts often with the public, schools, town agencies, property owners, tenants, operators, and managers of food-handling enterprises, and sometimes with state authorities and personnel. Personal, phone, written, and email contacts are available. The employee has access to departmental medical records. Errors may cause service delays, personal damage, or harm to others.

Qualifications:

• Assists physician with client care; administers injections and medicines as directed; maintains basic cleanliness and order in clinic.
• Adheres to nursing and programmed standards in all aspects of work. Meets with nurse team leader on a regular basis for nursing standard of practice monitoring, consultation, and evaluation.
• Worked with other health care professionals to establish, administer, and evaluate a customized treatment plan for each patient.
• Responsible for designing intervention strategies for people, entities, and communities, including schools, nursing facilities, private organizations, and all religious communities, based on healthcare evaluations.
• Each client receives individualized care/family development plans and intervention tactics. Nursing and programmed standards govern service delivery and documentation.
• Entrusted with providing nursing care and promoting public health through the implementation of programmers and the dissemination of information to the general public on such topics as infection control, disease prevention, accident awareness, healthy living, emergency preparedness, and participation in public health initiatives and programmers.
• Works together with the clinical providers at primary care sites by attending case conferences and talking with them in other ways.
• Knowledge of EHR management systems, Navigate social, emotional, socioeconomic, racism, intergenerational, housing, and other healthcare access barriers.
• Participates in continuing professional education to increase knowledge, skill, and competence; does other responsibilities as assigned.

Skills:

• A bachelor’s degree in nursing, as well as three years of experience in public health or a similar field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, are necessary. A current driver’s license is essential. A valid Registered Nurse license.

• State RN license or reciprocal license within six months of hire. Direct patient care experience is preferred.
