Job Description

The ideal Senior Accountant should have at least two to four years of recent corporate accounting experience, ideally in a mid- to large-sized business. Advanced Excel abilities are required, as well as a strong ability to learn new systems and procedures quickly. In addition, strong writing and speaking abilities are essential.

Qualifications:

  • Analyze financial data and produce monthly trend reports and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
  • Help with annual public audits and make sure reports are sent out on time by coordinating the closing of each month and the end of the year.
  • Perform all accounting operations necessary to keep the general ledger in accordance with FAR/GAAP and corporate policy and procedures.
  • To create, suggest, and put into practice procedural and system modifications that will improve accuracy and efficiency, evaluate workflow processes and procedures.
  • Prepare the schedules and supporting papers for the financial statements, and then evaluate, analyze and update them. Coordinate the preparation of the CAFR and other financial reports, including those for special purposes.
  • Set up a paperless filing and retrieval system for accounting/corporate records, as well as the ability to attach documents inside the financial system when the system allows.
  • Receivables and Payables Receivable processes for a variety of portfolio companies, including daily invoices, bills, journal entries, weekly check runs, monthly accruals, and special projects.
  • Supervise accounting staff by screening and assigning workload, planning, prioritizing, and assigning tasks and projects, training staff, monitoring work and evaluating performance, and meeting with staff on a regular basis to discuss and resolve priorities, special assignments, problems, and technical issues.
  • Manage accounting operations, check and reconcile transactions and financial activities in the accounting records for correctness and completeness as well as compliance with federal-state requirements as well as funding agency standards as well as county policies and controls.
  • Pay vendors and check requests in line with permission and approval procedures, and monitor bills that have not been authorized.

Skills:

  • Accounts on the balance sheet and income statement may be thoroughly inspected by the auditor. It is expected that corrective entries, bringing up possible problems for discussion, identifying problem accounts and checking balances for correctness and completeness are among the tasks to be undertaken.
  • Being able to effectively explain and communicate financial principles, procedures, and detailed recommendations and directions for appropriate recordkeeping.
  • Completion of quarterly and yearly insurance statements, and preparation of required financial reporting.
  • Capability to participate effectively to meetings and group projects with employees and others outside the banking industry.
  • Accountant has a minimum of two years of experience in a mid- to large-sized corporation’s accounting department or in public auditing.
