An understanding of electrical safety, ladder and scaffolding precautions, and an orientation to lifting equipment, wire rope basics, basic rigging, fire prevention, choker sizing, load charts, cutting torches, and blueprint reading are all necessary skills for riggers. All riggers, albeit not required to, should get certified by a nationally recognized organization like NCCER. Must learn about and be comfortable with all potential hazards on the job, as well as all necessary tools and equipment. Is required to work in a plant or construction setting.

Qualifications:

• Signals or verbal instructions are given to those involved in the lifting and moving of products to ensure everyone’s safety.
• Head blocks, mule blocks, sheaves, winches, and other counterweighted, winched, and dead hanging system components are drilled, fastened, and tested for functionality.
• It is common practice to use both hand and power tools when attaching loads to rigging for the purposes of providing support and facilitating movement.
• All rigging gear is examined and double-checked before being used for the first time.
• Riggers are needed for installations that need labor twelve to sixty feet off the ground, which typically requires the use of safety gear and climbing.
• Teamwork is especially important when installing rigging, even though much of the work requires independent thought and decision making.
• Proper performance of this role necessitates strict adherence to the company’s regulations regarding punctuality, attendance, and the reporting of absences.
• Hardware installation in preexisting structures; installing hanging pipes, beams, or tracks; hardware installation in concrete, steel, wood, and block walls; these are just some of the specific tasks involved in this project.
• Lifting and lowering items, machinery, and equipment from and to platforms, vehicles, streets, and other decks of buildings and vessels requires careful planning and execution.
• Ropes, hoists, and pulleys are all tools in the rigger’s toolbox. Carries out manual labor in the course of company activities.

Skills:

• Working conditions in this industry typically need the person to move around quite a bit, whether on their feet, knees, or squats.
• Applicants are required to take and pass a drug test before they may be hired. While on the job, riggers may be tested for drugs and alcohol at any time.
• In addition to climbing ladders with weight limits of 300 lbs., individuals will be expected to push, pull, bend, or stand for extended periods of time.
• When determining secure rigging practices, you should look to reputable sources in addition to your own “common sense.”
• A minimum of five years’ full-time experience as a Rigger during the preceding decade, including five years’ worth of experience executing the tasks and responsibilities listed under Duties and Responsibilities.
