Under the supervision of a physician or other healthcare professional, a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) performs normal clinical and administrative activities. Vital signs, medical histories, patient preparation, blood drawing, prescription refill processing and assistance with minor procedures as advised by a physician or health practitioner are all examples of clinical duties. Patient experience, safety, and privacy are all enhanced by the CMA’s role as an ambassador for the practice.

Qualifications:

• Creates and maintains health record data, files and organizes as necessary.
• By arranging spaces, gathering tools, and putting equipment in place, ensures a clean and hygienic environment.
• Manages certifications and pre-authorizations with insurance carriers as necessary.
• Supports office needs by performing clerical duties include taking calls, setting up appointments, checking insurance, gathering co-pays, creating lab request forms, and other duties as assigned.
• Assists with treatments ordered by provider as supervised by provider or registered nurse. Performs select clinical duties.
• Performs fundamental material management tasks, such as ordering and stocking goods. Helps to keep the environment tidy and organized.
• Medication administration for detainees and residents is carried out directly under the Health Services Administrator’s supervision
• As needed, performs clinical activities such as blood testing, EKGs, hearing and vision exams, urinalysis, injections, vaccines, prescription administration, treatments, and minor surgery.
• Patients are checked in, the reason for their visit is confirmed, their vital signs are obtained and documented, and their medical history is revised.
• Communication with patients and other healthcare professionals is carried out in accordance with the direction of the doctor or health care professional in charge.

Skills:

• A minimum of six months of relevant experience and/or training, or an equal mix of education and experience.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to a constantly shifting work environment are essential.
• Demonstrated leadership and management abilities.
• Shows a clear knowledge of the value of ensuring the comfort and safety of patients.
• Candidates who do not have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent at the time of hire will be given the chance to enroll in a GED/HSEA program as a requirement of employment. New hires will have one (1) year from the date of hire to successfully finish a GED program and get their HSEA.
