Job Description

The Program Manager works closely with business partners, team members, and other IT units to ensure the timely and effective completion of all projects and programs. This person will be responsible for the whole lifecycle of a single or several concurrent projects, as well as big programs comprised of multiple projects. The Program Manager’s responsibilities as a member of the Governance Team include, but are not limited to, overseeing the work of project managers, developing and monitoring program-wide schedules, keeping tabs on dependencies between projects, reporting on the program’s progress, and identifying and mitigating risks and issues at the enterprise level. The Program Manager’s responsibilities extend beyond mere program management to include process leadership, assistance with project structure, guidance with the implementation of PM software, and the direction of process improvement efforts. The Program Manager’s other role is to act as a mentor to the many project managers under their supervision.

Qualifications:

  • Take charge of the program’s finances while juggling other tasks, resolving conflicts, and keeping tabs on progress.
  • Work must be coordinated with the project managers, other IT departments, and suppliers.
  • Encourage a positive team dynamic, show project managers the way, and give guidance in perplexing circumstances.
  • Apply your persuasion, negotiating abilities, and ingenuity to resolve disagreements over project scope, timeline, costs, budget, risks, and resources.
  • Oversee a number of independent projects and/or programs running at once.
  • Be aware of the ripple effect that individual initiatives can have on a program or portfolio, and proceed with caution if you must report issues or risks at that level.
  • Oversee the program’s budgeting efforts and coordinate with upper-level management, project leads, and suppliers to maximize the project’s return on investment.
  • When required, mediate and settle disputes within the program. Recognize proper escalation routes and techniques.
  • Make it easier for project managers to make up-front estimates of time and resources by conducting systematic discovery with stakeholders, IT resources, and vendors.
  • A customer-first mentality must permeate all of your stakeholder, vendor, and information technology (IT) coordination and collaboration efforts.

Skills:

  • At least 12 years of experience managing projects of all sizes, with an emphasis on those of medium to large scope.
  • a thorough knowledge of and aptitude for managing the project and software development life cycle(s) utilizing both Waterfall and Agile techniques.
  • Capacity to pick up new skills rapidly and adjust to different situations; willingness to actively seek out answers when needed.
  • Clear, effective verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to actively listen, problem solve, and effectively interact with both technical and business users, are required.
  • degree from an accredited university; preferably in a technical field connected to computers and/or information systems (CS/IS).
