The Director of Facilities is responsible for overseeing the Engineering, Facilities and Grounds, and Security departments as well as the company’s comprehensive safety initiative. This job is responsible for directing and coordinating all human resources, planning, and budgeting activities within the department, as well as facilitating productive and cooperative relationships with other departments, contractors, and clients. The Director of Facilities is responsible for promoting the vision, mission, and values of the organization as a whole, with an emphasis on the needs of the clientele.

Qualifications:

• Develops new policies, processes, and/or programs that lead to more effective operations by identifying process improvements within their respective spheres of responsibility.
• Manages the day-to-day operations of the department and collaborates closely with the Manager of Facilities and Grounds and the Supervisor of Security to ensure that there is always enough help on hand.
• ensures that environmental measures like recycling and rubbish disposal are carried out.
• develops and implements operational procedures; maintains and updates the Operational Policies Handbook.
• oversees mowing, weeding, mulching, leaf blowing, and some aspects of the grass program. She also maintains and coordinates the irrigation system.
• establishes and manages the department’s annual work plan and budget.
• Determines departmental staffing needs and collaborates with direct reports and Human Resources to find, interview, and hire new workers.
• actively participates in team leadership; works with other senior leaders to design and implement projects that advance the Conservatory’s purpose and strengthen its leadership position within the network of botanical gardens.
• manages employee performance, approves payroll, and coaches the head of security and the facilities and grounds manager.
• Responsible for making ensuring that the weekly and daily cleaning and maintenance schedules are adhered to.

Skills:

• It is necessary to have an associate’s degree in a technical field related to the job; a bachelor’s degree in the field is desirable.
• Expertise in team development and the implementation of morale-boosting programs.
• Ability to prioritize and carry out projects within their scope, on schedule, and within their allocated budgets while managing a large workforce.
• Excellent communicators are able to effectively interact with persons of varying educational, occupational, and social backgrounds (employees, volunteers, patrons, vendors, and peer institutions).
• Flexibility in scheduling is required, as is the ability to respond to problems in the building while serving as manager-on-duty.
