Operator of Heavy Equipment Employing cranes with telescoping and lattice booms, loads, unloads, transports, and positions large freight and equipment at diverse job locations. Conducts a thorough inspection of wires and makes any necessary repairs. The ideal candidate will have experience loading, unloading, moving, and placing heavy objects using cranes with telescoping and lattice booms. The machinery under the operator’s care receives routine servicing. Conducts a thorough check for frayed or broken wires, then fixes or replaces them as needed.

Qualifications:

  • The operator of the crane will report any broken or faulty parts discovered during routine maintenance. The crane needs some TLC, so it’s time to grease it up.
  • The control panel allows you to monitor processes and make necessary adjustments. General preventative maintenance is performed, and all work is done in compliance with applicable safety regulations.
  • Inspecting the crane and cab, filling out inspection paperwork, operating the crane (4 hand levers, 1 foot brake), and filling steel orders all require mounting a vertical ladder (to a height of 25 feet).
  • All-conditions capability and the ability to report in real-time. Performs a wide range of tasks as directed by upper management.
  • The duties of this position include acquiring and inspecting the necessary rigging, attaching it to the load, determining the best route, sounding a whistle to alert the crane operator, guiding the load to its final destination, installing it, and finally detaching the rigging and putting it back in its storage rack.
  • The ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications, as well as the mathematical skill to determine the appropriate size of wire, sheaves, and fittings, are all prerequisites for this position.
  • After finishing the primary task and the Crane Operator’s duties, only then can work begin as a Rigger.
  • Be familiar with and abide by all company, customer, health and safety, and other relevant laws and regulations, such as those pertaining to weight and size. This information is important for the candidate to know.
  • Work with riggers and truck drivers to lift items and cargo, using radio or visual signals and other forms of communication.
  • Chains, nylon slings, pallet lifters, magnets, vacuum lifters, Posi-turner, spreader bar, softeners, tape measure, hammer, punches, pliers, crescent wrench, paint stick marker, and other tools will be used.

Skills:

  • Each year, prospective employees must pass a physical exam to prove they are in good health and capable of performing the duties of the position.
  • A fundamental familiarity with equipment upkeep is required.
  • The ability to work at heights of at least 30 feet and with spans of at least 60 feet using a cab and bridge crane (or an equivalent sort) is required.
  • Validation by either the NCCCO or the CIC. DOT medical cards are accepted. The certification or permission of the Safety Department’s Equipment Manager or Operations Manager is necessary. A permit is required by law in your area (DC requires operators to be licensed). There will be a practical test involved.
  • Capacity to check that every day ends with a clean and safe work environment, that machines aren’t overworked, and that all equipment, supplies, and tools have been accounted for and packed away.
