Qualifications:

• Ability to obtain and control euthanasia drugs and equipment, as well as ensuring that supplies and equipment are used in accordance with all applicable state and federal rules and laws. Ability to stay abreast of current trends and developments in the animal sheltering business.
• Maintains medical/surgical records for clients/patients and ensures that all necessary logs are kept up to date according to approved norms.
• When vaccination is appropriate, vaccinates all animals not currently vaccinated against rabies prior to release, and certifies all animals released from quarantine observation as rabies-free. Provides animal bite victims with information, including the procedures they should take to safeguard their personal safety.
• Ability to get animal data from employees, input dispositions into a computer, and prepare monthly and weekly reports in accordance with established procedures.
• Policy and procedure for the care and use of experimental animals, including per diem costs in the Animal Facility, is being revised, updated, and developed.
• Physical examinations, diagnostic tests, surgical and dental treatments are all completed successfully. Clients learn about their pets’ diagnoses, treatment programs, preventive health care, and nutritional requirements.
• Provides animal husbandry, humane animal handling, sanitation and disease prevention, basic animal behavior, medical care, surgical support (intake and discharge), and animal first aid training to employees. Assists in the training, evaluation, and execution of effective animal euthanasia by injection; Examines all impounded animals and orders euthanasia for those who are sick or damaged.
• In a fast-paced shelter environment, performs high-quality sterilization surgery for the control of adopted animal populations. Triage, physical exams, emergency medical care, stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment of unwell and injured animals, minor surgery, immunizations, and testing are all examples of routine veterinarian care.
• Clients supply valuable information, and he or she pays attention to and understands their worries and aspirations.
• Writes medical treatment guidelines and follows them. Ability to decipher local animal-control ordinances, legislation, rules, and regulations, as well as city policies. Capacity to reply to public inquiries from members of the general public and city leaders; Assist in the timely and successful settlement of issues.

Skills:

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), or equivalent veterinary medicine degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary medicine college or equivalent.
• Medical and/or other medical record keeping systems knowledge, including MedARKs and ZIMS.
• To deal with ultra-potent narcotics, you must have a federal DEA license and a controlled substance registration.
• Communication skills are important.
• Must be able to operate in a team environment while still completing duties independently.
