Qualifications:

• Writes medical treatment procedures and follows them. Ability to interpret local animal-care and-control ordinances, legislation, rules, and regulations, as well as city policies. Capacity to reply to public and city officials’ queries; Assist with the effective and quick resolution of concerns.
• Provides high-quality sterilization surgery for the population management of adopted animals in a fast-paced shelter setting. Routine veterinarian care includes things like triage, physical exams, emergency medical care, stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment of sick or injured animals, minor surgery, vaccines, and testing.
• Performs physical examinations, diagnostic procedures, surgical, and dental operations successfully. Clients are informed about pet diagnosis, treatment programs, preventive health care, and nutritional requirements.
• Clients supply valuable information, and he or she pays attention to and understands their worries and aspirations.
• Maintains client/patient medical/surgical records and ensures that all relevant logs are kept current in accordance with protocols.
• Overseeing the care and use of research and teaching animals, as well as a veterinarian care and preventive medicine program.
• Ability to acquire and control euthanasia drugs and equipment; ensuring that supplies and equipment are used properly in line with all applicable state and federal rules and laws. Ability to keep up with current trends and advancements in the animal sheltering industry.
• Vaccinates all animals not currently vaccinated against rabies before releasing them if vaccination is appropriate, and certifies that all animals released from quarantine are rabies-free. Animal bite victims are given instructions on how to protect themselves and what steps to follow.
• Provides animal husbandry, humane animal handling, sanitation and disease management, basic animal behavior, medical care, surgical support (intake and discharge), and animal first aid training to employees. Assists in the training, evaluation, and execution of proper animal euthanasia by injection. Examines all impounded animals and orders euthanasia for those who are sick or damaged.
• Ability to collect animal data from personnel, enter dispositions into computer, and generate monthly and weekly reports in accordance with set guidelines.

Skills:

• You’ll need a federal DEA license and a controlled substance registration if you’re dealing with ultra-potent opioids.
• It is necessary to be familiar with the ZIMS medical record-keeping system.
• Communication skills are essential.
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), or comparable degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary medicine college or equivalent
• Must be able to work in a collaborative setting while still being able to do assignments individually.
