We’re looking for a veterinarian to join our team right now. The incumbent’s primary responsibilities will include providing veterinary health treatment for animals as well as providing guidance on animal care and upkeep. He or she will also keep an eye on animal health and wellbeing in accordance with applicable animal welfare rules.

Qualifications:

• Vaccinates all animals not currently vaccinated against rabies before releasing them if vaccination is appropriate, and certifies that all animals released from quarantine are rabies-free. Animal bite victims are given instructions on how to protect themselves and what steps to follow.
• Animal husbandry, ethical animal handling, sanitation and disease management, basic animal behavior, medical care, surgical support (both intake and discharge), and animal first aid are among the skills that employees receive. Assists with animal euthanasia through training, evaluating, and executing injections. Examines the seized animals and, if they are sick or damaged, orders that they be put down.
• In order to develop partnerships, gathers a lot of information from clients and listens to and understands their concerns and needs.
• Preventative care is promoted through advocating and delivering routine vaccinations, as well as educating clients on good pet nutrition and lifestyle choices.
• Performs high-quality sterilizing surgery for adopted animal population management in a fast-paced shelter environment. Routine veterinarian care includes triage, physical exams, emergency medical care, stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment of sick and injured animals, minor surgery, vaccines, and testing.
• Physical examinations, diagnostic tests, surgical and dental treatments are all completed successfully. Clients learn about their pets’ diagnoses, treatment programs, preventive health care, and nutritional requirements.
• Maintains client/patient medical/surgical records and ensures that all relevant logs are kept up to date according to established protocols.
• Ability to get animal records from employees, enter dispositions into a computer, and prepare monthly and weekly reports in accordance with established guidelines.
• Ability to obtain and control euthanasia drugs and equipment, as well as ensure that supplies and equipment are used in accordance with all applicable state and federal rules and laws. The ability to stay up to date on current trends and developments in the animal sheltering sector.
• Writes medical treatment procedures and follows them. Ability to interpret local animal-care and-control ordinances, legislation, rules, and regulations, as well as city policies. Capacity to reply to public and city officials’ queries; Assist with the effective and quick resolution of concerns.

Skills:

• Communication skills are important.
• You must have a federal DEA license and a controlled substance registration to deal with ultra-potent opioids.
• It is necessary to be familiar with the ZIMS medical record-keeping system.
• A doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM), a veterinary medical doctor (VMD), or an equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary institution is required.
• Must be able to work well in a group setting and perform tasks with minimal supervision.
