When examining issues, the Economist employs a diverse set of economic and public policy abilities. Cross-examining company and intervention witnesses is a requirement of the job. Reviewing, assessing, and making oral and writing recommendations for the Commission on utility petitions for base rate revenue needs, base revenue allocations, rate design, additional surcharges, and financing agreements. In addition, the Economist assists with all aspects of assigned cases, including preparing information requests, interrogating expert witnesses during hearings, producing memoranda and policy suggestions, and authoring parts of orders.

Qualifications:

• Develop fresh and innovative solutions for the department’s toolbox and products.
• Study challenges raised by research sponsors, management, or senior staff, then plan, arrange, and report on the outcomes.
• It is necessary to gather and examine current data, as well as undertake research to locate new data sources for analytic purposes.
• Determines and suggests schedules and methods for supplying economic and financial data to fulfil defined reporting standards, processes, and procedures.
• It is necessary to do data analysis utilizing mathematical models and statistical approaches.
• Collaborate closely with other economists and high-level executives in order to convey economic ideas and quantitative data to non-technical audiences verbally and in writing.
• Contribute to economic policy research activities on behalf of public and private sector consumers (e.g. market research, surveys, project and impact evaluations, etc.)
• Conduct surveys to gather economic data, compare previously provided data to current situations, and identify the relationships between relevant economic aspects for well-defined projects.
• An experienced senior economist oversees economic research, assessment, and interpretation, as well as the generation of benefit estimates and reporting of outcomes.
• In order to analyze and anticipate market activity, previous trends must be researched.

Skills:

• Teaching assignments that included both classroom instruction in economics subjects and one of the following: (1) personal research with evidence of results, (2) supervision of graduate theses in economics, or (3) service as a consultant or advisor in a college or university on technical economics problems.
• It is necessary to be familiar with the most recent economics academic research on entrepreneurship, small business, employment, and labor market dynamics in order to succeed in this position.
• At least 21 semester hours of economics and three semester hours of statistics, accounting, or calculus were required.
• The candidate should possess a strong sense of leadership as well as a persistent drive to learn and improve his abilities.
• Strong written and spoken communication abilities, as well as the ability to customize messages to a variety of audiences including business, media/press, academic, technical, and political audiences.
