Job Description

In compliance with Physical Therapy Standards of Practice, the Physical Therapist offers and coordinates comprehensive physical therapy care to patients through the proper use of evaluation, planning, education, and implementation of a treatment plan. Documentation, scheduling, family training, attendance at rounds, engagement with the Interdisciplinary Team, involvement in staff meetings, procuring supplies, and contributing to ongoing quality control and performance improvement are examples of indirect patient care activities. In addition, incumbents are responsible for effectively responding to legal, patient rights, safety, maintenance, and emergency situations; participating in continuing education, staff development, and self-directed learning; and overseeing and providing performance feedback to staff, aides, students, and volunteers, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • To help patients reduce their reliance on medicines and prevent surgery, provide them with information and training.
  • Tests and assesses a patient’s strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacities, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency, as well as keeping track of the results in order to design or modify treatment plans.
  • Prevent the onset, symptoms, and progression of impairments, functional restrictions, and disabilities that can occur as a result of diseases, disorders, conditions, or injuries.
  • Perform initial and ongoing physical therapy evaluations in line with state and APTA standards of practice.
  • Consults with a physician and other practitioners to collect further patient information, make treatment program changes, and integrate physical therapy with other areas of the patient’s health care.
  • As needed, advise and consult with the client’s family and/or other caregivers to encourage the client’s progress toward mutually agreed-upon goals and a discharge plan.
  • When it comes to mobility and health, it’s important to restore, maintain, and encourage not only optimal physical function but also ideal wellness, fitness, and quality of life.
  • Understands different payer payments and allocates therapeutic resources efficiently based on resident goals and outcomes associated with discharge destination.
  • Implement a Care Plan, hold patients accountable for following it, and adjust the timetable and plan as necessary based on the patient’s progress.
  • Instructs, stimulates, and aids the patient with non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, daily-living activities, and the use of assistive and supportive equipment including crutches, canes, and prostheses.

Skills:

  • Empathy, compassion, and the ability to encourage patients to push their limits in a responsible, safe, and constructive way are all desirable attributes.
  • A degree in physical therapy from an APTA-accredited program is required.
  • Experience in rehabilitation, Orthopedics, and medical/surgical settings that indicates achievement of the requisite job knowledge, skills, and abilities is desirable.
  • The candidate should possess a strong sense of leadership as well as a persistent drive to learn and improve his abilities.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a skilled nursing facility, hospital, or inpatient/outpatient setting is necessary.
