Our company is searching for a motivated Forester with previous work experience to join our team responsible for natural resource management. The Forester provides direct assistance to the Senior Resource Forester in a wide range of tasks and responsibilities across all aspects of the industrial forest’s operations. The Forester reports to the Senior Resource Forester. The Forester will be part of a small team of workers that will be engaged in all parts of the company’s natural resource management in order to meet or surpass the company’s yearly objectives.

Qualifications:

  • To ensure the implementation of the regional silviculture strategy and annual plan, field-verification of treatment candidates and provision of setting specific recon information to management, silviculture contract negotiation, silviculture operation supervision, timely status updates for system activity updates and monitoring of contract performance, such as safety and SFI/EMP.
  • By re-evaluating and upgrading forestry websites, new outreach materials may be created to support a wide range of forestry programs.
  • Accurately sets up the annual harvest schedule, road design and access rights of way along with any other responsibilities that may be required to administer the crop’s sale.
  • Provides information to consumers about codes and other regulatory requirements; acts as a subject matter expert on applicable regulatory codes; monitors and inspects barriers and other safety-related signs and equipment.
  • In this role, you’ll be responsible for overseeing forest management and harvest monitoring on company- or privately-owned land.
  • Asses the condition of forestland that is owned by the county and help to write forest stewardship plans that will help guide future restoration and management. Activities include collecting data in the field and analyzing it to figure out the condition of the forest. All recently and recently acquired forestland parcels should be assessed with the help of staff and contractors. They should use the Forest Landscape Assessment Tool (FLAT) to figure out how they’re doing.
  • Contributes to municipal tree and landscape inspections by providing assistance and taking part in the inspections itself. Quality, amount and kind of plant materials utilized must meet the requirements of the project, and methods for safeguarding and installing new plants must be followed, as well as arrangements for plant maintenance.
  • Review factors and grants or denies applications; notifies applicants in writing of reasons for denial. Assign and participate in site inspections to ensure that the information included in submitted plans is correct.
  • Maintain the health and safety of the City’s tree stock and educate other Streets Division employees on appropriate tree care procedures.
  • General forestry chores, such as early and mid-rotation work and contract administration and/or other responsibilities, are delegated to this position’s responsibility.

Skills:

  • Having the ability to build and sustain excellent working connections with co-workers, departments, and members of the public.
  • Thorough understanding of tree planting, upkeep (wrapping, guying, watering, mulching, weeding), pruning, trimming, disease examination, and removal needs and choices.
  • An undergraduate degree in urban forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, or a related discipline from a recognized college or university, plus six (6) months experience in landscaping, forestry, nursery operations, or related employment, and six (6) months experience performing tree and landscape inspections are required.
  • Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Word proficiency, as well as excellent verbal and written communication abilities, are needed.
  • Perform inspections and identify pathological plant problems; educate employees in tree and landscaping inspections; build and manage effective tree and landscaping inspection systems; conduct inspections and give diagnosis. Analyze the viability of repairing sick or otherwise damaged trees. Review landscaping designs and make an informed decision on whether they should be accepted or rejected. Enforce laws, ordinances, and rules in a fair and consistent manner..
