A phlebotomy technician collects laboratory specimens and/or conducts EKG testing on inpatients under general supervision. EHR and/or laboratory information systems may be used to enter data (LIS). The use of a variety of communication methods in a timely and professional way is required to interact and communicate with patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals.

Qualifications:

• Document specimen collection and testing in the electronic health record and laboratory information system according to normal protocol. Inform the patient care staff of any difficulties or concerns.
• Contributes to the attainment of the goals and objectives that have been set for the department while adhering to the policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements that have been established for the department. satisfies the requirements set out by the government and accrediting agencies.
• Both the test tray and the working area are kept in a clean condition. Assists with the correct upkeep and repair of departmental equipment and supplies by placing supply orders as needed.
• Records and labels test tubes, records procedures in a log book, and arranges for procedures to be performed as needed. Maintains the necessary records, reports, and statistics.
• Fix test orders that are strange or unclear by calling the doctor, nurse, or reference lab and writing down what was done. Send all problems that can’t be solved to the right supervisor.
• Greets patients in a professional and polite way. Checks that the patient is who they say they are, according to hospital policy. Does phlebotomy (skin and heel punctures) well on all kinds of patients. Puts the correct doctor’s orders into the LIS. Label specimens correctly as soon as the procedure is done, according to the lab’s policies and procedures.
• Venipuncture, capillary collection, standard labeling, and specimen transfer are all part of blood drawing.
• All in-house and outpatient studies need that you keep in touch with research participants on a regular basis in order to fulfill your job tasks and obligations.
• Patient registration, payment collection, and data input of demographic and insurance information are among the duties of this position.
• The Patient Test Requester is in charge of entering written or spoken requests for patient tests into the HIS and laboratory computer systems.

Skills:

• Venipuncture, capillary collection, TB placement, and respiratory swabs Knowledge of patient needs
• In addition to a high school graduation or its equivalent, successful completion of a phlebotomy course authorized by the hospital and six months of experience as a phlebotomist are required.
• Phlebotomy experience or the successful completion of a formal training course in phlebotomy from a recognized institution that is acceptable to Laboratory Management
• With a nationally recognized phlebotomy certification organization, you are either certified or qualified to be certified. One year’s worth of inpatient hospital experience
• Some technical jobs may need a qualification, previous experience, or training in Phase I technical procedures.
