Job Description

In the Orthopedic Clinic, the Medical Office Specialist handles all administrative tasks, including secretarial work, scheduling, and patient registration. The individual needs to show that they have what it takes to provide care for patients of all ages on their unit. The individual must be able to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, interpret relevant information needed to determine each patient’s requirements according to his or her age-specific needs, and provide the care required as described in the unit’s policies and procedures.

  • Accurately collects and enters patient data into databases, performing insurance verification and demographics verification as needed.
  • Proves fluency in EHR/PMS systems and other related terminology. Responsible for the training and mentoring of Patient Access team members.
  • Capable of both taking initiative and following instructions when working on a project. be able to operate with little to no direction.
  • Complete purchase orders, keep inventories, and order things from materials management.
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills. demonstrates excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Accepts assignments and is flexible when called upon to fill in other departments.
  • Complete information requests and record searches for insurance providers and physicians.
  • Makes end-of-day entries for charges, payments, and balances. Takes in patient payments for services rendered and co-insurance.


  • Relationship building and maintenance skills with clients, coworkers, healthcare providers, and the public at large will be essential.
  • Everyday responsibilities will include using and becoming familiar with medical terminology.
  • Ability to type with correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation is essential, as is familiarity with computers.
  • It is crucial to be able to convey information clearly and concisely to both patients and medical staff.
  • Work and personal conduct must be consistent with the facility’s policies and procedures.
