As the Managing Editor, your job will be to ensure the timely completion of projects related to a certain product line, from contract signing to final product delivery. Maintaining high-level communication with the author/editor throughout the project’s life cycle; monitoring expenses, timetables, and financial output budgets; guaranteeing the quality of the final product (s).

Qualifications:

• Collaborate with freelancers and in-house producers, authors, copy editors, and designers.
• Help other departments produce excellent written materials, such as membership materials, program fliers, and exhibition labels.
• Keeping the author in the loop about the status of their content, informing them of upcoming workflow stages, and establishing up-front expectations for the author’s role in the content development and production processes all contribute to a successful outcome where the author delivers their content.
• By working with Editorial, you can make sure that the necessary information is entered into the system from the beginning of the contracting process all the way until the product’s eventual retirement.
• Collaborating with the Editorial/Senior Managing Editor to plan the publication year ahead, taking into account the knowledge of the publishing program and author pool.
• Find new ways to make money, like directing the creation of a successful advertising program across content platforms and selling Magazine in places like bookstores and newsstands.
• Work with the shop staff, local museums, and print-on-demand providers to fulfill retail and wholesale orders.
• Monitoring the project’s development as it moves through the various steps of the full content lifecycle, checking that all schedules are up-to-date, and informing stakeholders of any changes from the original FY projections.
• Maintain an up-to-date internal style guide, paying specific attention to changes that promote more linguistic diversity and understanding.
• Using the right technologies to monitor project costs versus projected budgets, communicating variances to stakeholders, and resolving any issues that arise.

Skills:

• expert understanding of the book publishing industry and all its subgenres.
• Understands the many components and timeliness of the end-to-end content process, including content acquisition, development, production, and delivery.
• Manages the process of finding and acquiring the rights to use artwork, photographs, and copyrighted material for Journals.
• Understands the P&L, Cash Flow, and Return on Investment (ROI) implications of business decisions.
• superior familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite and electronic communication.
