This reporter’s job at the Company will be to provide the public an inside look at the creative process, whether that’s at a major concert venue or in the home studio of an up-and-coming artist. They will investigate how our varied region’s culture is communicated via many mediums such as song, dance, ritual, art, literature, film, and the spoken word. They’ll share accounts of people, places, and things at the crossroads of arts, culture, and marginalized groups, as well as how new social movements are being reflected in creative forms like music and literature. The ideal candidate will be an engaging communicator who is at ease on both ends of the microphone. In addition to delivering outstanding audio narrative for radio and podcasts, they should also be able to host engaging, thought-provoking conversations live on-air and in the community.

Qualifications:

• Investigate narratives that touch on underrepresented populations, the arts, and culture.
• Collaborate closely with editors and content producers to develop strategies that communicate a vision and strategy for arts coverage.
• For use on radio, the web, television, and podcasts, find and create fascinating arts stories.
• There are also supplementary duties, such as monitoring federal and state reporting websites, conducting research on public disclosure forms, and filing records requests.
• The duties of this role include coming up with story ideas and reporting on topics as needed. Your superior will be the managing editor.
• The reporter will also be responsible for covering and uncovering issues related to the impact of money in politics, such as the impact of donations, PACs, lobbying, conflicts of interest, and more.
• Make use of online communities and other information-sharing platforms to disseminate your reports.
• Maintain a regular filing schedule, which may include working late or on the weekend.
• You might also be requested, depending on the situation, to capture still pictures, record video, or produce on-camera video segments about your reporting.
• Engage frequently with important stakeholders and organize gatherings for local arts community.

Skills:

• Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are all useful tools, so mastering them is a plus. Prior knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms is desired.
• or an equivalent mix of education and experience, a bachelor’s degree and three years of professional journalism experience, with considerable expertise covering the arts.
• Possessing excellent command of English and the capacity to articulate specialized concepts to a wide readership.
• fundamental knowledge of the equipment and processes utilized in audio production.
• Capacity for both individual and team effort, as well as for representing the station in a positive light at all times.
