Job Description

The Senior Accountant performs a variety of accounting duties on a daily basis to ensure that financial data is processed in a timely and accurate manner. The drafting of diary entries, the daily reporting of cash balances, etc. are all part of this process. Computerized systems, reporting, and design and development are only few of the responsibilities that may fall under this category.

Qualifications:

  • Manage the workload of the accounting staff, screen and allocate duties, organize, prioritize, and assign tasks and projects, train employees, keep an eye on work progress, assess performance, and hold regular staff meetings to go over and resolve tasks, problems, and technical difficulties.
  • A paperless filing and retrieval system should be established to guarantee that prior and current records may be accessed as needed, as well allowing papers to be attached to a financial system when the system enables.
  • Receivables and Payables For many portfolio companies, receivables tasks include submitting daily invoices, bills, journal entries, weekly check runs, monthly accruals, and special projects.
  • Analyze financial data and produce monthly trend reports and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
  • Evaluation of workflow processes and procedures is necessary to develop, advice, and implement procedural and system adjustments that will increase accuracy and efficiency.
  • In addition to preparing, evaluating, and revising financial statement schedules and supporting documentation, oversee the development of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and other mandatory and special-use financial reports.
  • To ensure timely reporting and assistance for yearly public audits, organize the month- and year-end procedures.
  • Maintain the general ledger in line with FAR/GAAP and company rules and procedures by performing all essential accounting responsibilities.
  • Monitor and evaluate accounting documentation for correctness, completeness, and compliance with Federal and state requirements, funding agency standards, and county policies and control procedures. Review and reconcile journal entries, transactions, and financial activities.
  • Verify that payments are made for vendor bills and check requests in compliance with the permission and approval procedures, and follow up on unpaid invoices.

Skills:

  • Ability to describe and effectively communicate financial principles and procedures, as well as particular instructions and strategies for proper recordkeeping.
  • Ability to contribute well to group initiatives and meetings with colleagues as well as those outside the finance industry.
  • Capability to perform a comprehensive review of balance sheet and income statement accounts, including recommending/executing correcting entries, identifying problem accounts, identifying potential issues for discussion, analyzing balances for accuracy and completeness, and proposing accrual or deferral entries as appropriate.
  • Production of necessary financial reporting, as well as the completion of quarterly and annual insurance statements.
  • Accountant has a minimum of two years of experience in a mid- to large-sized corporation’s accounting department or in public auditing.
