Job Description

In order to ensure the accurate and timely processing of financial data, the Senior Accountant completes a variety of daily accounting activities. Writing diary entries, reporting cash balances on a daily basis, and other tasks fall under this category. Using computerized systems, reporting, as well as design and development, may be some of these activities.

Qualifications:

  • Compile, evaluate, analyze, and update financial statement schedules and supporting documentation for the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and other statutory and special-use financial reports.
  • Comply with FAR/GAAP and corporate policy and procedures by performing all accounting operations linked to the general ledger in accordance
  • Analyze financial information, produce trend reports and balance sheet reconciliations each month to ensure the correctness of the financial statements.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivables Recording daily bills, invoices and journal entries, weekly check runs, monthly accruals, and unique responsibilities for a variety of portfolio companies are some of the receivable operations.
  • Manage the accounting team’s workload, screen and assign responsibilities, organize, prioritize, and assign tasks and projects, train workers, monitor job progress, evaluate performance, and conduct routine staff meetings to discuss and resolve tasks, problems, and technical issues.
  • To guarantee timely reporting and to help with annual public audits, coordinate month-end and year-end closure operations.
  • System and procedural changes may be made to increase the efficiency of workflow operations by evaluating the current procedures in place.
  • Ensure that vendor invoices and check requests are paid in compliance with permission and approval procedures, and that unapproved bills are followed up on.
  • Manage accounting operations, check and reconcile transactions and financial activities in the accounting records for correctness and completeness as well as compliance with federal-state requirements as well as funding agency standards as well as county policies and controls.
  • Plan and implement a paperless filing and retrieval system that allows for the easy retrieval of prior and current data and the attachment of paper to the financial system when permitted.

Skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and a minimum of two years’ experience, preferably in a mid- to large-sized corporate accounting environment or with public auditing.
  • Completes quarterly and yearly insurance statements and produces required financial reporting.
  • Capability to perform a comprehensive review of balance sheet and income statement accounts, including recommending/executing correcting entries, identifying problem accounts, identifying potential issues for discussion, analyzing balances for accuracy and completeness, and proposing accrual or deferral entries as appropriate.
  • Capability to articulate and effectively convey Finance rules and processes, as well as precise recordkeeping instructions and procedures.
  • The ability to engage effectively in meetings/group initiatives with colleagues and individuals outside of the Finance department.
