An Engineering Technician helps engineers with duties like designing, testing, verifying, modifying, fabricating, and assembling electromechanical system prototypes, experimental design circuits, or specialized test equipment.

Qualifications:

• Assists in the design of larger, more complex public infrastructure projects by using GPS, GIS, and CADD software to create plans, professional engineering drawings, requirements, details, maps, plats, and other displays for engineering projects.
• Assists in the development of County infrastructure by collecting, studying, and analyzing a wide range of engineering and operational data; taking part in field and topography surveys for design assignments and staking/field laying out design components for construction projects; evaluating road conditions and identifying necessary repairs or resurfacing; inspecting construction to ensure adherence to designs and project specifications per work site; and performing other related duties as needed.
• Uses in-depth knowledge of engineering principles and practices to perform calculations for the assigned project, including those for ratios, volumes, angles, grades, construction quantities, and other project components; provides cost estimates; and evaluates calculations submitted by third parties.
• Maintains and repairs machinery when it breaks down. Finding solutions (when necessary). Fixes broken or faulty components, such as motors and switches.
• Keeps all project documentation, including database files, up-to-date and in order for all assigned projects.
• Assesses designs and delivers preliminary opinions on technical compliance issues; reviews a wide range of residential and commercial plans, plats, permits, reports, and studies for conformity with ordinances and building standards. Reviewing and assessing the impact of the proposed project, and making suggestions for approval and/or remedial activities to address deviations or violations; working with third-party architects and engineers to resolve difficulties and provide code compliance direction.
• Supports clients of engineering firms by answering questions, coordinating with experts in the field, drafting letters and mailings to explain projects to the public, addressing questions about building them, and addressing citizen concerns and complaints.
• In most cases, these tasks fall under the purview of this position. If the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this categorization, then the absence of clear definitions of the requirements does not rule them out. It’s possible to delegate additional responsibilities.
• Develops construction specifications and reviews contractor specifications for compliance with established rules and regulations; organizes bid proposals and calculates cost estimates; reviews material, labor, and equipment costs to verify accuracy; and provides technical guidance for construction as needed; prepares project contract documents and all required permitting;
• Produces and maintains various maps using CAD software; reads, analyzes, and interprets maps and plats; provides written legal descriptions of property; gathers data relevant to grant, permit, and environmental rules; (CAD).

Skills:

• Able to use and learn new software for road design and have a solid understanding of computer systems. Performs duties requiring or instructing the use of various computer software and hardware, including but not limited to Autocad Civil D, Trimble, the World Wide Web, spreadsheets, word processing, and State software for Road and Bridge.
• Possessing strong people skills, the ability to plan effectively, and talk clearly are fundamental.
• Experience in surveying, drafting, or entry-level civil engineering work equivalent to three years is necessary, as is any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer system engineering, or a closely related field of engineering.
