Pre-hospital ALS encompasses patient examination, treatment, and stabilization. A paramedic has a wide knowledge base and can evaluate and treat a variety of medical situations, as permitted by the local Medical Director.

Qualifications:

• The paramedics will exhibit effective contact with the receiving institution in order to get medical guidance and communicate the patient’s condition and other essential information. Completing thorough written documentation on the patient’s health and treatment, as well as understanding the pertinent legal, moral, and ethical problems pertaining to emergency medical services. Respecting contact with the patient and family, comforting and reassuring the patient, and demonstrating care and civility while maintaining the patient’s information’s confidentiality are all responsibilities of paramedics. Assist with patient care in the receiving facility, including lifting and transferring patients as necessary.
• Paramedics may treat adults, newborns, children, medical, and trauma patients based on their assessment. Transfer patients based on their medical conditions and injuries, unless otherwise instructed by a doctor.
• The paramedic will be responsible for maintaining his or her license and completing the appropriate coursework for renewal. The Department will give education, but it is the duty of the paramedic to ensure they have enough credits for their own renewal.
• Performs patient evaluations, reevaluations, and resuscitation treatments, such as IV fluids, endotracheal intubation, chest decompression, medicine, spine/extremity immobilization, and other life support operations.
• It is the Paramedic’s responsibility to inform their supervisor in a timely way of any issues with their supplies, equipment, or vehicle. It will be refilled if and when it runs out.
• Asses the patient in the ambulance and administers any further care that is required. They may use a variety of transportation tools. An emergency medical technician should document the patient’s health or injury as well as their reaction to medical care at the scene and while in route.
• People engage in a wide range of physical activities, from climbing to walking to stooping to touching objects. To retain national certification, state licensing, and knowledge in the subject, participate in training programs. Depending on the location and the needs of the patients, working hours may vary. Overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays may all be applicable in certain cases..
• Observes patients’ situations throughout therapy and, based on judgment and expertise, modifies methods or procedures as required to ensure a favorable outcome.
• Directs the work of litter teams in the transfer of patients to and from evacuation vehicles, such as ambulances, planes, and other modes of transportation.
• Provide emergency medical assistance, including transportation, to people in need. Paramedics do this.

Skills:

• National Paramedic Registry status. Workshops and staff meetings are required per policy.
• Ambulance operations, including on-board systems, emergency driving, scene management, radio communication, general patient care treatments, and understanding of the equipment used in the pre-hospital context to provide patient care.
• High school diploma or equivalent necessary; paramedic or paratechnology degree desirable. A licensed paramedic must complete an approved program.
• It is important to have an in-depth understanding of paramedic concepts, procedures and methods in addition to an understanding of different equipment, such as a monitor or defibrillator.
• The knowledge and skills necessary to deliver standardized advanced life support level care and interaction approaches with the goal of developing productive connections with patients and engaging effectively with members of the treatment team.
