Job Description

As a Building Inspector, you’ll spend most of your time doing standard home inspections. The incumbent obtains the knowledge and credentials necessary to undertake all types of inspections, both residential and commercial.

Qualifications:

  • All building projects and activities are subject to his scrutiny; he must ensure that they comply with all relevant laws, rules, and industry standards.
  • Corrective action was verified; patrols were conducted on a regular basis to monitor building progress; and written notices of violation, citation, and closures were issued.
  • Inspects mobile/manufactured structure installations to ensure they adhere to manufacturer’s specifications and any state criteria.
  • The work of outside contractors and municipal employees is observed and inspected to verify that it satisfies contract criteria and quality standards in the construction of buildings, signs and construction. inspects the work and supplies at construction sites and contractor offices
  • Expert in the appropriate regulatory codes; monitors and inspects barriers and other safety-related signs and equipment; offers information to clients; serves as a subject matter expert.
  • Federal, state, and municipal requirements are investigated and corrective procedures are devised. Alternate ways of compliance are also approved by the proper authorities, as are plans for conformance.
  • Assist other contractors and municipal authorities with building projects, offering guidance and mechanical assistance as needed. Attends a variety of training programs to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in the construction industry and inspection requirements that may affect their work.
  • Performs residential and light commercial building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing inspections to verify that new construction, changes, and repairs conform with building codes, ordinances, zoning laws, and contract requirements.
  • Ensures that work is completed in accordance with plans and regulations by attending construction meetings and other trainings, as well as keeping current of new materials used in building and new repair scams.
  • assists in resolving complex and delicate customer service issues arising from the application of construction codes and standards

Skills:

  • Having the capacity to detect and correct any violations or flaws in building construction materials and procedures at any step of the construction process is essential.
  • High school education or GED and five years of work experience in construction, plumbing, electrical, or equivalent sectors are required.
  • Temporary One and Two Family Dwelling Inspector license through DBPR after 90 days of hire and the ability to convert to a normal license within the term required by DBPR in order for department employees.
  • a minimum of four years of experience in a construction-related profession, such as carpentry, that involves the interpretation of specifications/plans and the verification of conformity with local development and/or building codes
  • At the time of employment, candidates must have a Certified Erosion and Sedimentation Control Lead certification, or the capacity to get one within six months of beginning work.
