Qualifications:

  • Strategically assess the payroll department’s needs and design and streamline processes and procedures accordingly.
  • Payroll compliance must be met in line with internal / external auditing and statutory processes.
  • It is our duty to keep our payroll system up to date and to contain information on our workers’ hourly rates (the number of hours they worked), wages (including commissions and bonuses), paid time off and holidays (including accrued vacation), and withholdings and deductions (as well as other information). Employees should be consulted on any discrepancies in the timekeeping data they retain. This role is responsible for all aspects of payroll, including new hires, layoffs, and adjustments to wage rates. Tax and benefit deductions from employees’ paychecks must be exact. Stay on top of payroll and HR paperwork.
  • Build and maintain connections with key stakeholders, such as HR, benefits, finance, external auditors, and vendors, to encourage cross-departmental process improvements.
  • Collaboration with accounting/finance to reconcile all payroll accounts in a timely and correct way; helps audits by providing auditors with records and documentation.
  • Instill a customer-service mindset in payroll by creating robust operational processes, KPIs, and rules.

Skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant work experience, or a combination of education and experience, are requirements for this position.

  • Payroll experience of at least 3–4 years is necessary.
  • Knowledge and practical expertise relating to the taxability of income, deductions, and employer provided benefits in various jurisdictions.
  • Experience working remotely is not necessary but is viewed as an advantage.
