Engineering, telecommunications, facilities and property management, as well as all other departments under facilities management, fall under the purview of the director of facilities.

Job Title : Graduate Director of Facilities

Qualifications:

• Manages the Facilities and Grounds Manager and the Security Supervisor, covering their day-to-day tasks, professional growth, and payroll approval.
• creates and implements operational rules and procedures, as well as as needed revising the Operational Policies Handbook for the Conservatory.
• manages the department’s operations and works closely with the grounds manager and security supervisor to maintain an adequate workforce.
• Ensures that environmental activities such as recycling and waste disposal are carried out.
• Creates annual departmental work plan and budget and manages its implementation.
• Identifies process improvements within areas of responsibility and develops new procedures and/or programs that result in more efficient operations.
• identifies the department’s staffing needs, and collaborates with HR to find, attract, and hire new hires.
• maintains and organizes the grass program, parks, mowing, weeding, mulching, leaf blowing, and some of the landscaping.
• Ensures that all daily/weekly maintenance and cleaning programs that fall under areas of responsibility are carried out.
• Participates actively as a member of the leadership team; collaborates with other senior leaders to develop and implement initiatives that further the Conservatory’s mission and solidify its status as a leader among the world’s botanical gardens.

Skills:

• Possessing the ability to manage a large team of people while maintaining focus on priorities, completing work on time, and staying within budget.
• Although a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is desired, an associate degree in a technical field is necessary.
• Superior verbal and written communication abilities; comfortable interacting with people of varying educational and occupational levels (employees, volunteers, patrons, vendors, and peer institutions).
• Expertise in establishing teams and conducting morale-boosting activities.
• Flexibility in scheduling is required, as is the ability to respond to building crises when called upon and to serve as manager-on-duty.
