The Economist uses a wide variety of economic and public policy skills while researching subjects. The function necessitates cross-examining business and intervention witnesses. On utility petitions for changes in base rate revenue needs, base revenue distributions, rate design, extra surcharges, and financing arrangements, reviewing, analyzing, and presenting verbally and in writing recommendations to the Commission. Furthermore, the Economist is active in all phases of assigned cases, including making information requests, questioning expert witnesses during hearings, writing memoranda and policy recommendations, and composing sections of orders.

Qualifications:

• Allow for new and innovative ideas to be introduced into the department’s toolset to fulfil the demands of its customers.
• Determines and recommends schedules and methods for supplying economic and financial data in order to comply with specified reporting standards, processes, and procedures; assists in the formulation of budget and economic goals and objectives that are consistent with strategic planning initiatives; and performs other duties as assigned.
• On behalf of customers from both the public and commercial sectors, I do research on a variety of economic policy topics (e.g. market research, surveys, project and impact evaluations, etc.)
• Conduct surveys to collect economic data, compare previously supplied data to current circumstances, and uncover links between key economic features for explicitly defined goals.
• For analytic purposes, it is required to collect and analyze current data as well as conduct research to identify new data sources.
• It is necessary to do data analysis utilizing mathematical models and statistical approaches.
• Conduct economic research, evaluate and interpret data, develop benefit estimates, and present findings under the direction of a senior economist.
• In order to analyze and forecast market activity, it is vital to examine prior patterns.
• Study challenges raised by research sponsors, management, or senior staff, then plan, arrange, and report on the outcomes.
• Orally and in writing, communicate and convey economic concepts and quantitative data to non-technical audiences, and collaborate with other economists and top level executives.

Skills:

• Writing and speaking skills that can be tailored to business, media/press, academic/technical and political audiences are required.
• It is necessary to be familiar with the most current economics academic research on entrepreneurship, small business, employment, and labor market dynamics in order to succeed in this field.
• It was essential to take at least 21 semester hours in economics, as well as three semester hours of statistics, accounting, or calculus.
• Teaching duties at a college or institution that includes both classroom instruction and one of the following: (1) personal research with proof of results, (2) supervision of graduate theses in economics, or (3) work as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems.
• The applicant should have a strong sense of leadership and a persistent drive to learn and improve his abilities.
