As a Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll apply your academic knowledge to real-world projects involving site characterization and remediation, earth retaining structures, deep and shallow foundations, landfill design and construction, dams and water containment structures, forensic investigations and litigation support, geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, numerical analysis of stability and deformation, and geohazard / earthquake engineering.

Qualifications:

• Performing engineering calculations for foundations and retaining walls under supervision from more experienced engineers. Compile and evaluate all of the information provided before.
• Take part in a wide range of geotechnical engineering analyses and designs, such as slope stability analyses, seismic evaluations, shallow and deep foundation design, ground improvement design, excavation and shoring evaluations, and other difficult technical evaluations.
• Use of traditional or computer-aided technical equipment in the calculation of results (e.g., slope stability, excavation support, settlement)
• Knowledge and experience in the phosphate mining industry, including designing and building clay settling areas, managing water on mined land and bringing it back to life, and designing, running, and closing gypsum stacks.
• Manage and execute laboratory and field geotechnical and testing projects for construction materials in a safe manner, on schedule, within budget, and to the client’s satisfaction.
• Provide geotechnical engineering services and advice to project managers for mining, infrastructure, and water resources projects for the company’s public and private sector clients.
• Perform slope stability, seepage, and/or settlement assessments in support of dams and levees, waste dumps, and so on, under the supervision of senior engineering professionals.
• Perform field duties, including subsurface testing and soil and bedrock research in conjunction with foundation design and construction projects. This may involve inspection of test borings, monitoring the construction of deep and shallow foundations, and ground improvements.
• Develop and approve landfill and waste containment systems, as well as geotechnical instrumentation, environmental remediation, seismic engineering, and offshore field studies.
• Assist in the creation of technical proposals, cost estimates, engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and other deliverables related to design projects, as well as routine communication.

Skills:

• Foundation engineering, slope stability, and seismic assessment studies applied to engineering solutions
• Ability to operate outside in any weather and isolated locales. Long-distance and overnight travel skills.
• EIT certification or the ability to get EIT certification within six months after graduation from an ABET-approved school or university in civil or geological engineering
• In the realm of subsurface exploration, some examples of field exploration and instrumentation competence include the installation of groundwater transducers and inclinometers, as well as monitoring of groundwater transducers.
• Outstanding writing and vocal communication skills; strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment abilities; ability to operate alone and in a collaborative atmosphere.
