As a Forester at the Department of Natural Resources, you will be responsible for specialized technical work within the Division of Forestry (DNR). Your overall goal will be to guarantee that forest areas are properly developed, maintained, and used.

Qualifications:

  • Assists and participates in municipal inspections of tree and landscaping installation. Makes sure that the quality, quantity, and type of plant materials used are acceptable; makes sure that the proper procedures for protecting existing and installing new plants are followed; and makes sure that provisions for maintenance and care of plant materials are in place.
  • Assess the state of county-owned forestland and assist in the development of forest stewardship plans that will aid in the management of the land in the future. We collect and analyze data from the field as part of our job responsibilities. This assists us in determining how the forest is structured. Working with personnel and contractors is required in order to utilize the Forest Landscape Assessment Tool (FLAT). It may be used to examine the condition of any forestland parcels that have recently been purchased or that are in the process of being purchased.
  • Applications are reviewed, and either granted or denied, and applicants are notified of the grounds for refusal. Coordinate with municipal officials and engage in site clearance inspections to verify that plans presented are in accordance with municipal code and ordinance requirements. To check the accuracy of the information included in the plans that have been filed, coordinate inspections with inspectors at lower levels.
  • Verifies, establishes, and inventories the annual thin and harvest schedule, as well as road design and access rights of way, and any other tasks that may be required in connection with the sale and administration of the crop.
  • Keeping forestry-related websites current and creating new outreach materials are essential components of many different forestry efforts.
  • To guarantee that the code requirements of other disciplines are satisfied without interfering with the tree and landscape code, site plan review personnel (including those from stormwater management, zoning, and transportation) discuss one another.
  • Silviculture, forestry management, and harvest monitoring on company-owned or privately-owned property.
  • Ensures that the silviculture plan is carried out in accordance with the regional silviculture strategy and the annual plan, and that field-verification of silviculture treatment candidates and provision of setting-specific recon information to management are completed. Negotiates silviculture contracts and oversees silviculture operations. Provides timely status updates for system activity updates.
  • Maintaining the health and safety of the City’s tree stock and educating other Streets Division staff on proper tree care methods are the primary responsibilities of this position.
  • Conducting early- and mid-rotation responsibilities for the forestry department as well as any additional activities that may be allocated.

Skills:

  • There is a very high standard for all elements of tree care, from planting to pruning to disease detection and treatment. A detailed grasp of the different tree care methods is also required.
  • Capacity for establishing and maintaining excellent working connections with coworkers, departments, and the general public.
  • Microsoft Office skills, including Excel and Word fluency, are essential, as as strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Assess the reparability of sick and damaged trees, assess landscaping ideas and make informed decisions regarding their acceptance or rejection. to forcefully, discreetly, and impartially implement laws and norms Set up and manage efficient forestry and landscaping inspection systems.
