Job Description

Through analysis and reporting of production status, the cost accountant is in charge of making sure that daily production needs are satisfied. The compilation and analysis of cost reports, audits, and reviews of pricing schemes and cost-allocation variables are within the purview of this role.

Qualifications:

  • Creates and/or enhances cost management procedures and applies suitable costing methodology to identify, quantify, compile, and report activity costs.
  • Business Data: Ensures the integrity of financial and performance data to assist management make educated decisions. Maintain/update the annual standard cost roll and cost new items carefully for the sales team to ensure client satisfaction. Examine monthly freight charges, inventory cycle counts, month-end inventories, and invoice/spending data for quality; search for irregularities, monthly inflation, and cost-cutting opportunities. Work with the manufacturing team to create/review, assess, and verify accurate production credit/hours earned, production costs, and shutdown project accruals. Assist with financial audits. Complete census data reports, monthly and quarterly reports per laws, rules, and procedures.
  • Assist the management team in making knowledgeable financial decisions by establishing and maintaining trusting relationships with employees. Accrual budget meetings, weekly manufacturing performance and costing impact education sessions are all part of the process of establishing a thorough understanding of your company’s financial data.
  • Provides management with guidance and support on accounting and financial management issues, gathers and analyzes data, helps to resolve discrepancies in the data, and/or develops suggestions for management choices.
  • Accounting records (such as general ledger accounts) are inspected and reconciled; reconciliation spreadsheets are generated; adjustments are filed and followed up on.
  • The generation or upgrading of current cost accounting data utilizing proper costing techniques results in high accuracy and timeliness in financial reporting.
  • Performs in-depth analysis, examination, and interpretation of accounting records, data, and reports in order to ascertain prior costs, identify incorrectly reported charges, and reallocate the costs so that they are recorded in the right cost structure.
  • Investigate and implement cost-saving process innovations that raise production’s financial performance by methodically reviewing the most current data, predicted future expenses, and customer demand. When it comes time to do an annual inventory of the facilities, your contacts with the various parties involved may be quite helpful. Take an active role in closing off the project accruals.
  • Management and cost accounting are only two of the many responsibilities of this position. Contributes to payroll, forecast, and budgeting procedures within the agency.
  • The financial management system has had to be altered as a result of changes in the regulations governing financial reporting.

Skills:

  • Production and financial methods associated to it are understood. Operations and manufacturing principles are necessary, as well as knowledge of the supply chain’s ins-and-outs.
  • Knowledge of and experience in using cost management approaches, projects, and cost pools based on direct and indirect cost rates
  • An in-depth knowledge of the finance, distribution, and production systems is required for the analysis of transactional data in an ERP system and the ability to effectively convey results to management.
  • Be able to multitask well and work independently in busy circumstances. Successful time managers and goal-getters who are at their best under pressure. A few qualities that define a good teammate are collaboration, leadership, effectiveness, stress management, data analysis, and budget management. It is necessary to have outstanding organizational and analytical skills as well as financial reporting, month-end closure, and variance analysis.
  • Working with accounting and project cost data, reclassifying expenditures, preparing supporting work documentation, and reporting changes uncovered throughout the process.
