Qualifications:

  • Assist other contractors and municipal authorities with building projects, offering guidance and mechanical assistance as needed. Attends a variety of training programs to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in the construction industry and inspection requirements that may affect their work.
  • Abreast of changes in pertinent regulations and laws, new construction materials, and repair scams; attends construction meetings or other trainings to verify that work is being completed in accordance with plans and code requirements.
  • Observes and inspects building, sign, and construction work completed by outside contractors and municipal personnel to ensure that it complies with contract requirements and meets quality standards; visits project sites and the offices of contractors to inspect the work and supplies on hand
  • Compliance with manufacturer specifications and any relevant state standards for mobile/manufactured structure installations is verified by the inspectors
  • doing follow-up checks to ensure that the remedial actions taken have been put in place.
  • Inspections of residential and light commercial buildings, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to verify that new construction, renovations, and repairs conform with building rules, laws, zoning restrictions, and contract requirements.
  • Many construction and building sites are assessed and inspected, and a complete examination of all building activities is provided to assure compliance, safety, and competency.
  • Identification and implementation of essential corrective actions, as well as strategies for attaining compliance, are all part of the job description for this position.
  • Expert in the appropriate regulatory codes; monitors and inspects barriers and other safety-related signs and equipment; offers information to clients; serves as a subject matter expert.
  • Facilitates the resolution of difficult and delicate customer service problems relating to construction codes and standards.

Skills:

  • The ability to identify and remedy probable violations or faults in building construction materials and processes at any stage of construction.
  • A temporary One and Two Family Dwelling Inspector license from the DBPR within 90 days after hire, which must be converted to a normal license within the term required by the DBPR to work for the department.
  • Certified Erosion and Sedimentation Control Lead certification, or the ability to get one within six months of starting the position, is needed at the time of hiring.
  • An associate’s degree or a GED is necessary, as is five years of relevant job experience in the building trades (construction, plumbing, electrical, and other related fields). In addition, a bachelor’s degree or GED is necessary.
  • Work experience in a construction-related field such as carpentry, where interpretation of specifications/plans and confirmation of conformity with local development and/or building codes are required.
