The Dental Assistant prepares the patient for treatment, assists the dentist in restorative dentistry or oral surgery, prepares materials and equipment for treatment, takes x-rays, and helps the dentist in the lab. May make appointments, answer the phone, order supplies, and any other Office Manager-assigned activities.

Qualifications:

• Helps with patient care, such as passing instruments and other materials to the dentist during procedures, taking x-rays of patients’ teeth, making molds of patients’ teeth for casts, using suction and swabs to keep patients’ mouths clean and dry during procedures, etc.
• Meets people in the waiting room and walks them to the operating room, Helps the dentist give treatment at the chair side as needed or as directed by the dentist.
• Provides patients with dental care advice and works to ensure that they are relaxed and at ease before to, during, and after dental procedures. Provides assistance with various office activities, such as placing orders for supplies, etc.
• This individual is in charge of keeping the patient’s record up to date by obtaining dental records, questioning them about their medical history, and recording it for future reference.
• Adheres to all components of a compliance program on a proactive basis, such as completing training and reporting any suspected breaches to the appropriate authorities.
• It’s important to keep an eye on the car’s outside appearance, as well as its inside, and do routine maintenance jobs like oil changes.
• Promotes an environment conducive to excellent dental and overall health by showing good oral hygiene, asking patients about their home care status, and training patients in proper flossing and brushing practices in line with protocol.
• Dental supplies must be kept track of, which may be accomplished by performing frequent stock audits, anticipating future supply demands, and organizing and expediting supply orders.
• Reduce waste and unnecessary duplication by properly preparing supplies and performing preventative maintenance on dental equipment as directed by the manufacturer.
• Help dentists with operative, endodontic, oral surgery, orthodontic, pedodontic, prosthodontic, and periodontal procedures using four-handed dental assisting techniques such as oral evacuation, making temporary crowns and custom trays, taking impressions, mixing cements, and helping with the application of light-cured material.

Skills:

• Two years’ experience in a dental environment is ideal; a high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
• Being able to use computer databases well, understanding and using mathematical ideas and formulas, The ability to do the main tasks, procedures, and practices of a dental office or practice.
• A current X-ray license would be ideal. The ability to speak fluent English is an advantage.
• Having the ability to employ sterile methods as well as infection control exposure protocols, Capability of providing assistance to the dentist with four-handed dental assisting methods
• Six months of experience demonstrating the applicant’s competence to do the job, Experience and education equivalents qualify.
