The major duty of the Assistant Operation Manager is to oversee and manage the Library Page staff, which includes hiring, training, coordinating job assignments, scheduling, conducting performance assessments, and putting necessary corrective measures into place. In support of the Operations Manager and other Management Team members, the Assistant Operations Manager has shared oversight of the regular library operations. The right person for this job will be able to work well with others, change quickly with changing demands, identify and set priorities, make plans and operate successfully under often complex or stressful circumstances, plan and organize their own work, and supervise the work of others. Preferably with supervisory experience.

  • Ensures that all library regulations and procedures are followed by providing new hire and ongoing training to library pages.
  • As a point of contact for Facilities Management Services, ensures the daily maintenance and repair of the designated facility.
  • Participates in and contributes to the overall management of the local library. Member of the regional management team. Promotes the development of a collaborative work environment.
  • As needed, one might help with direct reports’ tasks or with customer service and circulation.
  • Encourage workers to give their best effort.
  • Ensures that the library’s staffing needs are met by working with the Operations Manager on a daily basis.
  • Fills in for the operations manager when needed. These responsibilities could include resolving or recommending operational concerns, addressing worker and customer problems, conflicts, and incidents, and ensuring compliance with the Code of Conduct.
  • Library Pages are recruited, interviewed, and hired as needed. New hire documentation is completed appropriately and on time by this person.
  • Establishes staffing levels sufficient to satisfy the library’s demands and schedules Library Page employees based on the anticipated workload.
  • As needed, assists with the scheduling of Library Technical Assistants, Public Service Assistants, and Librarians as service points.


  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required, as well as some basic supervision training. It is preferable to have some college-level education.
  • Ability to properly handle customers that have behavioral concerns and to resolve complaints from those customers.
  • Working understanding of all aspects of library operations, particularly circulation procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with employees, peers, and customers using tact and diplomacy.
  • The position requires a minimum of two years of library experience. Preferably with experience as a supervisor.
