Job Description

The Veterinarian will be in charge of the animal collection’s health, including quarantine and medical operations. The veterinarian will also assist with the purchase and disposition of animals in the collection, as well as animal transportation and hand rearing techniques as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Vaccinates all animals that have not been vaccinated against rabies before releasing them when vaccination is safe, and certifies that all animals released from quarantine are rabies-free. Provides advice to animal bite victims, including how to safeguard their personal safety.
  • Successfully performs physical examinations, diagnostic testing, as well as surgical and dental procedures. Clients are given information on pet diagnosis, treatment plans, preventive health care, and dietary needs.
  • Establishes and follows written medical treatment protocols. Ability to interpret animal-control ordinances, legislation, rules, and regulations, as well as city policies. Ability to respond to questions from the public and city officials; Assist in the prompt and successful settlement of issues.
  • In order to develop partnerships, gathers detailed information from clients and listens to and understands their concerns and needs.
  • Employees get training in animal husbandry, humane animal handling, cleanliness and disease management, basic animal behavior, medical care, surgical support (both intake and discharge), and animal first aid. Assists in animal euthanasia via injection training, evaluation, and execution. Examines all seized animals and orders their euthanasia if they are sick or injured.
  • In a fast-paced shelter environment, provides high-quality sterilization surgery for adopted animal population management. Triage, physical exams, emergency medical care, stabilization, diagnosis and treatment of unwell and injured animals, minor surgery, immunizations, and testing are all examples of routine veterinarian care.
  • Ability to acquire and regulate euthanasia medications and equipment, as well as assure correct supply and equipment utilization in line with all applicable state and federal regulations and legislation. Ability to keep up with current animal shelter trends and advances.
  • Maintains client/patient medical/surgical records and ensures that all relevant logs are kept up to date according to established standards.
  • Advising and delivering routine vaccines, as well as educating clients on healthy nutrition and lifestyle choices for pets, are all ways to promote preventative care.
  • Ability to collect animal records from personnel, insert dispositions into computer, and generate monthly and weekly reports in accordance with set guidelines.

Skills:

  • MedARKs, ZIMS, and other medical record-keeping systems are all familiar to you.
  • It is necessary to have communication abilities.
  • A doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM), a veterinary medical doctor (VMD), or an equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary institution is required.
  • Possess (or receive) a Federal DEA license and registration for restricted substances.
  • Must be able to work in a group setting while also being able to complete tasks with little supervision.
