Job Description

The Building Inspector is responsible for conducting thorough and professional building inspections and investigations, as well as enforcing applicable building standards, regulations, and codes. Inspections are performed to verify that safety and structural integrity regulations, laws, and ordinances are being followed in a certain area or area of expertise.

Qualifications:

  • Investigates suspected breaches of federal, state, and municipal rules, ordinances, and regulations; identifies violations and appropriate corrective actions; establishes and communicates strategies for achieving conformity; and authorizes alternative methods for compliance.
  • Responsible for inspecting and reporting on the safety of barriers and other equipment as well as providing information to the general public.
  • Assists in the settlement of complex and delicate customer service issues arising from construction codes and regulations.
  • He attends meetings and other training sessions to ensure that work is done in compliance with plans and codes. As a result, he’s always up to speed on the latest developments in building materials, repair techniques, and governing legislation.
  • A complete examination of all building activities is provided to assure compliance, safety, and competence at a large number of construction sites around the City.
  • Residential and light-commercial buildings are inspected by construction inspectors to ensure compliance with applicable building rules, laws, zoning restrictions, and contracts. The technicians also examine for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing concerns. Inspectors also look for structural issues and faults when inspecting new construction.
  • inspectors check to see if outside contractors and city employees are following contract requirements and maintaining a high standard of quality control. They also visit construction sites and the offices of contractors to look over the progress and check out what supplies are available.
  • checks the installation of mobile and manufactured structures for compliance with manufacturer and state rules, as needed.
  • Issues and writes notices of violation, citations, and closures; performs follow-up inspections to ensure changes are done; patrols and checks construction sites on a regular basis to monitor building progress and code compliance.
  • Provides and participates in different trainings required to keep up with changing trends in the building and construction trades, as well as relevant inspection rules; provides guidance and mechanical advice to other contractors and City officials working on construction projects.

Skills:

  • The capacity to comprehend plans and specifications, as well as the ability to guarantee that they are being followed, is a must for this position.
  • Temporary One and Two Family Dwelling Inspector license through DBPR within 90 days of hire and the ability to convert to a normal license within the term required by DBPR in order for employment by Department of Housing and Urban Development.
  • Knowledge and experience are usually gained through a high school diploma or GED, and a minimum of five years of work experience in construction, plumbing, electrical, or a related field is needed to be hired as a construction worker.
  • Having the capacity to detect and correct any violations or flaws in building construction materials and procedures at any step of the construction process is essential.
  • you must have a certification in erosion and sedimentation control within six months of starting your job.
