Qualifications:

• makes sure environmental initiatives like recycling and rubbish disposal are carried out.
• Creates annual departmental work plan and budget and manages its implementation.
• oversees departmental operations and coordinates with the security supervisor, the facilities and grounds manager, and other staff members to ensure there is always an acceptable personnel level.
• Responsible for ensuring that all daily and weekly cleaning and maintenance activities are carried out within assigned locations.
• The person in charge of staffing the department works closely with their subordinates and HR to identify open positions and conduct interviews.
• Participates actively as a member of the leadership team; collaborates with other senior leaders to develop and implement initiatives that further the Conservatory’s mission and solidify its status as a leader among the world’s botanical gardens.
• Approves payroll and manages the performance reviews of subordinates, including the Facilities and Grounds Manager and the Security Supervisor.
• oversees the coordination and upkeep of irrigation systems, park mowing, weeding, mulching, leaf blowing, and select grass program areas.
• develops and puts into action operational rules and procedures, including when appropriate, amending the Operational Policies Handbook for the Conservatory.
• Identifies and develops innovative methods and/or programs that result in more efficient operations within areas of responsibility.

Skills:

• the ability to coordinate a large group of people, establish priorities, and complete projects on time, within budget, and as intended.
• The ability to work whenever necessary, including as the manager on duty and in an on-call capacity for building emergencies.
• Possessing strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills and the adaptability to work effectively with people of varying educational and occupational levels (employees, volunteers, patrons, vendors, and peer institutions).
• The minimum educational requirement for this position is an associate’s degree in a relevant technical subject, with a bachelor’s degree in the same being highly preferred.
• Professionalism and experience in enacting plans designed to increase enthusiasm and fortify groups.
