To achieve the company’s financial and marketing goals, a department manager oversees the department, including personnel operations. Oversees and controls the execution of sales promotions. To carry out projects, promote lucrative sales, and manage expenses, one must exhibit great knowledge of systems, strategies, the industry, and the competitive landscape.   • Daily store inspections to check on correct stock levels, merchandise placement, and customer service standards.
  • Manages the people in their assigned department, including making assignments, assessing performance, and conducting interviews, hiring, and orienting new staff.
  • Assists the store manager as necessary and has the authority to act in his or her stead.
  • Responsible for overseeing all aspects of handling and notifying consumers of their customized orders.
  • Help build and sustain a culture of hassle-free customer service that values mutually beneficial partnerships, creative problem solving, and satisfied clients.
  • Establishes excellent relationships with other shop employees and school organizations for promotional opportunities, special events, and support with off-site sales.
  • Makes and keeps up exhibits as per company guidelines.
  • Performs Home Office-initiated markups and markdowns, analyzes financial reports, executes purchase orders, and approves invoices.
  • Resolves escalating issues as they arise, responding to inquiries from students, instructors, staff, alumni, and other customers.
  • Manages the merchandise display in-store from the stockroom to the sales floor, acting as a liaison between the Store and the Planner.


  • A minimum of two years of managerial experience, with 25+ hourly employees under management.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Required to work varied schedules and hours to accommodate corporate requirements.
  • Experienced with implementing environmental and health standards in business.
  • Leadership and management skills that have been demonstrated.
