The Dentist is a qualified independent practitioner who practices dentistry and provides patients with oral healthcare and follow-up. The dentist follows all state and federal norms and regulations, as well as state dental board guidelines, when providing treatment and preventative services. The dentist collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to give patients with integrated treatment, and he or she participates in quality improvement, peer review, and assessment activities to help patients receive better care.

Qualifications:

• Examines people’s mouths to determine the type of restoration needed, determining the need for dental and prosthetic equipment.
• Examine, diagnose, prescribe, and perform (or direct others to perform) oral health care services in the patient’s best interests.
• Auxiliary and clerical employees receive enough training and orientation to their jobs. As needed, provides clinic management with input on the job performance of auxiliary and clerical personnel.
• Contribute to a team-oriented and collegiate environment by collaborating with other clinical and non-clinical staff members as needed.
• Follow all applicable dental rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures, including those controlling personnel, workplace safety, public health, and confidentiality, at the federal, state, municipal, and dental clinic levels.
• Taking advantage of opportunities for continuous education and training to improve your clinical knowledge and abilities.
• Uses suitable medications or surgery to treat infections in the teeth, mouth, and gums.
• For surgeries that cannot be performed within the institution, makes necessary referrals.
• Examines people’s teeth and oral tissues with x-rays, mouth mirrors, and other diagnostic processes and equipment in order to determine abnormal or irregular diseases.
• In the patient’s dental record, document patient-dentist transactions as they occur so that the record accurately reflects the nature of the contact, the patient’s condition, and the care or treatment offered. Make appropriate written referrals and, as necessary, get appropriate written approval.

Skills:

• Acquire and maintain a high level of clinical dentistry knowledge, with a focus on topics that are useful in a dental clinic, such as pediatric dentistry, emergency dental care, extractions, and dental care prevention.
• CPR certification is required, and it must be kept up to date.
• The candidate should have a strong sense of leadership and a persistent drive to learn and improve his abilities.
• Current, valid dental license (in good standing) in the state where services are provided, or eligibility for licensure in the state where services are delivered.
• Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication abilities are required.
