Job Description

The Curator is responsible for providing help to researchers through electronic means and in the reading room, as well as preparing manuscript collections, University record groups, and born-digital assets for use by the general public. In his or her role as a supervisor, this individual provides guidance and assistance in the development and execution of departmental and library-wide rules, procedures, and policies. People in this position are expected to represent the library in public places, and they will be involved in outreach efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Phone, email and face-to-face support are available for first-contact public services. Performs basic reference interviews and explains the procedures that are involved.   • Ensure that volunteers get enough training by assisting in the recruitment of volunteers, allocating them to suitable jobs, and overseeing their placement.
  • Conducts daily collection management tasks under the supervision of and with the participation of the collection manager. Oversees the museum’s custodial responsibility for the acquisition and preservation of items, including the development of acquisition, preservation, and conservation procedures for antiquities, art, photography, and documentary records.

Skills:

  • Assist the team in developing a sense of community by maintaining a healthy work-life balance, being open to others’ viewpoints, and accepting constructive criticism. As an executive, you’ll also need to have a strong sense of self-assurance and drive to succeed.
  • Extensive experience in museum work or a related topic area that was equivalent to completing a four-year degree program.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders; experience with public speaking; and a thorough working knowledge of museum best practices are all required.
  • Possession of a proven ability to work in a cooperative manner with others, including employees, volunteers, and members of the public in general
  • The capacity to create metadata and the construction of digital collections, finding aids, and other aspects of archive description is required.
