Job Description

This involves evaluating trees that are suspected of being unhealthy and maintaining the tree inventory and associated data. In the upkeep of public trees and right of ways, a forester is responsible for first-line work direction, as well as manual and semi-skilled labor. Qualifications:

  • Assists and participates in municipal inspections of tree and landscaping installation. Makes sure that the quality, quantity, and type of plant materials used are acceptable; makes sure that the proper procedures for protecting existing and installing new plants are followed; and makes sure that provisions for maintenance and care of plant materials are in place.
  • Other roles that may be necessary in the administration of crop sales include checking or setting up the year-round thinning and harvesting schedule, road design, and access rights of way.
  • Conducting early- and mid-rotation responsibilities for the forestry department as well as any additional activities that may be allocated.
  • Entrusted with several duties, including monitoring and ensuring that the region’s silviculture strategy and yearly plan are being carried out, as well as conducting field verification of treatment candidates and sending relevant information to the management team.
  • Review factors and grant or deny applications; notifies applicants in writing of reasons for denial. Assign and participate in site clearing inspections to ensure that plans submitted are compliant with municipal codes and ordinances. Coordinate with lower level inspectors regarding site inspections to ensure that information contained in submitted plans is correct.
  • Maintain the City’s tree inventory’s health and safety, as well as instruct other Streets Division workers on correct tree care procedures.
  • Consults with other site plan review staff (stormwater, zoning, and transportation) to ensure that the code requirements of other disciplines are adhered to without clashing with the tree and landscape code requirements.
  • Evaluate the status of county-managed forestland and contribute to the development of forest stewardship plans that will guide future restoration and management. Field data collection and analysis are used to assess the state of forest stands. Collaborate with employees and contractors to analyze the status of all newly acquired and newly acquired forestland parcels using the Forest Landscape Assessment Tool (FLAT).
  • On company- or privately-owned land, this vocation encompasses all aspects of forest management and harvest monitoring.
  • Maintaining forest-related websites up to date and developing new outreach materials are essential for supporting various forest-related endeavors.

Skills:

  • Excel and Word proficiency, as well as strong verbal and written communication abilities, are necessary for this role.
  • There is a very high standard for all elements of tree care, from planting to pruning to disease detection and treatment. A detailed grasp of the different tree care methods is also required.
  • Perform work outside that requires some physical endurance; train people in tree and landscaping inspections; set up and keep an effective system for inspecting trees and landscaping; and enforce codes, ordinances, and regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially.
