A Concrete Finisher is responsible for smoothing and polishing concrete highway road surfaces. The scope and structure of a project determine how much time a worker spends on it. Working conditions, workload, and seasonality may force workers to specialize or branch out. For the job they do

Qualifications:

• Operates a range of equipment, machinery, and tools that may include a dump truck, front-end loader, backhoe, tamping machine, cement mixer, air compressor, jackhammer, chainsaw, concrete saw, sledgehammer, mallet, shovel, rake, axe, mechanic tools, concrete tools, and concrete forms.
• The maintenance of equipment and tools includes inspecting fluid levels, replenishing fluids, lubricating and cleaning equipment, and cleaning work spaces; monitoring equipment operations to ensure efficiency and safety; reporting malfunctioning equipment; maintaining cleanliness and order in the workplace.
• Checks for the construction of the forms that support the concrete, then sets and aligns the forms to the required pitch and depth.
• Construction and finishing of concrete surfaces are among the tasks of the Concrete Finisher, who also assists with other Public Works projects.
• Communication is done by telephone and/or two-way radio; information is given out; messages are received, relayed, and responded to by workers, government officials, the general public, and others.
• Concrete compression using vibrating machines Installing anchor bolts, steel plates, and other concrete fittings This may be done using a sponge rubber float or burlap.
• Repairs concrete surfaces using cementitious materials such as sand, different hues, and sand and cement.
• You could be given reports or work orders to complete. Once you’ve completed them, either pass them on or keep them as records.
• Assists in the completion of departmental tasks (such as lifting/moving heavy items, shoveling materials, picking up debris/litter, putting signs, etc.) by doing manual job duties.
• Using a trowel to smooth down the top layer of newly poured concrete on walls, floors, ceilings, or sidewalks. Applying hardening and sealing additives to the concrete to cure the surface.

Skills:

• If you want to work as a bricklayer, you’ll need two years of concrete or bricklaying experience and/or training. You may use any other relevant training and talents to finish the task.
• Interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are required for this role.
• Following all safety rules and procedures and communicating properly with colleagues and supervisors is essential for on-time completion of projects.
• Working multiple shifts (days, nights) and working long hours during the summer months (70+ hours a week and nights during the summer months) will need flexibility.
• Move a minimum of 30 pounds and a maximum of 150 pounds with the assistance of others
