In order to be a rigger, one needs know how to handle heavy rigging, how to adjust a crane’s boom or cable, how to be safe on ladders and scaffolds, how to use chokers, and how to use cutting torches and blueprint reading. A national certification from an organization like NCCER, but not restricted to it, is strongly recommended for all riggers. Using and operating work-related items and equipment safely and efficiently are two important skills that every employee should master. You’ll be expected to work on a building site or at a manufacturing facility.

Qualifications:

• The rigger must operate at heights ranging from twelve to sixty feet from the ground, and may often need the usage of safety equipment and climbing.
• Structural support equipment such as planks and other rigging components are inspected for wear and tear.
• Installation of hardware to existing structures, hanging pipes, beams, or trackers, and hardware to concrete, steel, wood, and block walls are all part of the scope of work.
• When it comes to rigging installation, although most of the job requires individual initiative and judgment, working as part of a team is essential.
• This position requires strict adherence to the company’s policies on timekeeping, attendance, and absence reporting.
• Attaches loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
• Ensures the safety of personnel and goods by signaling or verbally directing those involved in lifting and moving weights.
• A Rigger’s job is to put up heavy lifting equipment and secure it using pulleys, ropes, and hoists so that it may be used securely. In the course of operations, this person does physical work.
• Drilling and testing components of counterweighted, winched, and dead-hung systems, as well as riveting and securing mule blocks and sheaves.
• Working on or off of work platforms, trucks, streets, or other levels of structures or vessels requires the safe lifting and lowering of equipment, machinery, and other objects.

Skills:

• Standing, walking, crawling, stooping and/or sitting are some of the common tasks that an employee must accomplish while at work.
• Must be able to lift or transport up to 50 lbs. of assorted equipment, supplies, and components without assistance.
• To be appointed, candidates must pass a drug test. During the course of their work, riggers are subjected to random drug and alcohol tests.
• In the previous ten years, five years of full-time experience as a Rigger fulfilling the tasks and obligations listed under Duties and Responsibilities.
• A valid state driver’s license is essential for DOT appointments, and it must be maintained for the length of employment.
