Job Description

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) aids the doctor and/or Advanced Care Practitioner (ACP) with administrative, environmental, and organizational duties as well as patient care, office visit patient intake, documentation, administration of vaccines and medications, and clerical duties. Assists with keeping a medical record current and scheduling appointments. Must be readily available to provide clinical services in all chosen locations, and in all areas of knowledge and expertise relevant to patient care.

  • Communicates with patients and other healthcare professionals as directed by the physician or health care professional in charge.
  • Performs clinical procedures as needed, including blood draws, EKGs, hearing and vision exams, urinalysis, injections, vaccines, drug delivery, treatments, and small surgeries.
  • Medication administration to residents or prisoners is done under the direct supervision of the health services administrator.
  • Answers phones, schedules appointments, verifies insurance, collects co-pays, prepares lab requests, and other clerical tasks as assigned to support practice needs.
  • Helps with treatments recommended by a doctor or nurse working under their direction.
  • Patients are checked in, the objective of the visit is confirmed, vital signs are taken and recorded, and the patient’s medical history is updated.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and sanitary atmosphere by setting up rooms, arranging tools, and installing equipment.
  • Performs core material management duties, such as placing orders and stocking shelves with commodities. Promotes order and cleanliness in the surroundings.
  • Records medical information in files and arranges them as needed. Create and maintains health records in this ways.
  • Pre-authorizations and certifications are handled as needed through communication with insurance providers.


  • Great interpersonal skills to deal effectively with others and the ability to function in a fluctuating work environment.
  • As a condition of employment, candidates without a High School Diploma or GED equivalent at the time of hire will be given the chance to enroll in a GED/HSEA program. From the date of hire, new hires will have one (1) year to successfully complete a GED program and get their HSEA.
  • A minimum of six months’ worth of applicable experience, training, or education, or an equal mix of education and experience.
  • It is apparent that the candidate understands the value of ensuring patient happiness and safety.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management abilities.
