Job Description

Prior to construction, the Cost Estimator will compile estimates and supervise the bidding process. Estimates, budget control and bid coverage are provided by the Cost Estimator throughout the pre-construction and construction stages of a project as well as across all scopes, systems and assemblies. Conceptual bids are more difficult to come by than lump-sum offers. Accurate estimates for all commercial project disciplines, including but not limited to civil and site work, structural concrete work, building envelope and finishing work as well as mechanical and electrical work. Each level of an estimate calls for a thorough knowledge of the interrelationships between labor, materials, equipment, and productivity in the unit costs.

Qualifications:

  • Develop presentations and brief the executive leadership on program cost positions, the impact of budget changes on supported programs, and other cost issues.
  • It is possible to assess the impact of many factors on a specific weapon system’s total cost of ownership by using cost estimate results. “
  • The project’s overall budget management may require you to prepare and negotiate estimates for Additional/Credit Change Orders in construction as well as contractor construction bid packages. You must also keep track of and modify these estimates as necessary (in accordance with cost estimating requests). This includes everything from studies and conceptual design options to preliminary and final designs and everything in between.
  • As a means of streamlining the process of generating cost estimates, the Cost Estimating Division will develop a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Manage design team, subcontractors, and staff communications. Gets subcontractor bids. Informs supervisor of errors or omissions in quoted items or database.
  • Use analytical processes like setting up the problem, doing background research, collecting and reducing data, displaying data for analysis, making mathematical expressions, and drawing conclusions.
  • Keep the project management information system up-to-date with the right records (e-Builder), Keep an eye on and track how well cost estimates are done (e.g., budget vs bid results)
  • Help clients with fact searches, audits, and negotiations while working in close collaboration with a global, cross-functional team that includes members from Contracts and Finance.
  • Confirm the economic viability and competitive position of assigned products by working with Technical Support and Product Management.
  • Items installed on an organization’s business server are subject to a variety of costs that must be taken into consideration.

Skills:

  • Bachelor’s in construction, engineering, or architecture, or any degree with construction/design experience. 2+ years of electrical cost estimating for building/engineering projects preferred.
  • Exceptional arithmetic abilities, understanding of machine tool industry materials and component prices, reading part drawings (including GD&T), interpersonal interactions, negotiating skills, phone skills, ERP system competence, and experience with Microsoft Office.
  • This role demands knowledge of sign or fabrication metal assembly best practices and efficiency methods.
  • The capacity to read and understand construction documents (drawings, specifications, contracts/general conditions) at all phases of design.
  • Mastery of fundamental arithmetic and statistics, Know structural steel weight loads, welding and fastening processes, and wind loads.
