The veterinarian will oversee all medical and quarantine procedures for the animal collection. The vet will also offer advice on animal transit and hand-rearing methods, as well as the acquisition and sale of collection animals.

Qualifications:

• Routine vaccines are advocated and administered, and clients are educated on the importance of providing their pets with a healthy diet and regular exercise as part of preventative care.
• All procedures, be they medical (such as checkups) or cosmetic (such as dental work), go off without a hitch. Patients are educated about their pets’ prognoses, treatment plans, preventative care options, and dietary needs.
• Certifies that all animals released from quarantine are rabies-free and vaccinates any unvaccinated animals before releasing them when it is safe to do so. Helpful information for people who have been bitten by animals, including suggestions on how to protect themselves.
• Provides high-caliber sterilization surgery to help shelters manage their adoptable animal numbers. Triage, physical exams, emergency medical care, stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment of sick or injured animals, minor surgery, immunizations, and testing are all part of a veterinarian’s regular routine.
• Protocols for medical care are established in writing and followed. A familiarity with city animal control policies and the ability to interpret relevant laws, rules, and regulations is required. Equipped to address concerns from residents and municipal officials you should help get problems fixed as soon as possible.
• Obtains information from customers by listening to them carefully and interpreting their needs and wants.
• Keeps all medical and surgical records for clients and patients up-to-date and in accordance with established protocols.
• The means to acquire and administer euthanasia medication and hardware, and to monitor their use to guarantee compliance with state and federal regulations and statutes. Capacity to keep up with the latest happenings in the animal welfare sector.
• Capacity to collect animal information from staff, record actions in a database, and generate required reports on a weekly and monthly basis.
• Workers get education on the fundamentals of animal husbandry, humane animal handling, hygiene and disease prevention, animal behavior, basic medical care, surgical assistance (intake and discharge), and first aid. Examines all incarcerated animals and issues euthanasia orders for those that are sick or damaged; helps with the training, evaluation, and implementation of effective animal euthanasia by injection.

Skills:

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (VMD), or similar degree from an institution recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
• Effective communication abilities are crucial.
• Ability to cooperate with others and get things done with little oversight is a must.
• Familiarity with electronic medical record systems such as MedARKs and ZIMS.
• Controlled substance registration and a federal DEA license are necessary when working with powerful opioids.
