Job Description

We are seeking for a Legal Assistant. Reviewing briefs and similar legal papers, evaluating significant problems, doing research on laws, precedents, and other circumstances bearing on such matters, and preparing opinions, orders, adjudications, and similar documents are all examples of legal research labor. The job is done directly for and under the supervision of a Judge assigned to the Court of Common Pleas.

Qualifications:

  • Perform additional work activities that need the same skills, knowledge, and physical abilities as the ones listed above, if not more.
  • Attend client meetings, presentations and other events as requested by the principal. This includes travel.
  • Perform in-depth research into the parties’ legal arguments and authority to verify or disprove their legality or accuracy in legal papers. Produce legal documents based on this in-depth investigation.
  • Determine what evidence or information is needed and plan a strategy for obtaining it in the first step of the probable cause investigation.
  • Gather and summarize all relevant information, identify significant issues and noteworthy features, and then create briefs and other submissions that will be utilized in the case prior to the trial. Detailed summaries of the case are provided to each member of the panel and include information on the most likely outcome based on the evidence, as well as biographical information on the participants.
  • To be utilized in court proceedings, gathers, sorts, and indexes a wide range of information.
  • Law clerks who write legal opinions for judges utilize their independent judgment to do research and use the findings to develop a recommended opinion for the judge to explain the court’s decision and reasoning to the litigants, using the results of that research.
  • Letter-writing duties include assisting with document preparation and the incorporation of corporate legal documents.
  • Proactively identify business prospects related to the legal industry, as well as devise and see through the implementation of necessary website features/functionalities.
  • Discusses cases with the judge, ensuring that all salient points raised and related issues of law are taken into consideration; expresses opinion and ensures that the judge’s viewpoint and intention are understood; drafts opinions and orders for cases, including both civil and criminal, sentencing decisions, and related matters; ensures proper citation of applicable statutory and precedential guidelines; responds to the judge’s questions about citations, intent, and other elements of such drafts; receives final approval of opinions and orders.

Skills:

  • The ability to write opinions, memoranda, and other legal writings that explain pertinent topics, relevant law and precedent, and judicial positions.
  • A Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Laws degree from a recognized legal school is required for enrollment .
  • Ability to work cooperatively with coworkers, to recognize and accept lines of authority, and to maintain cordial relationships with members of the public
  • The ability to engage with members of the public, other departments, offices, and co-workers in a courteous, efficient, and responsible way is essential whether in person or over the phone.
  • Know-how in situations involving the Court of Common Pleas, including civil and criminal rules and regulations
